Job Description

HR Manager

We are One Housing and we create places for people to call home and support them to live well. With a breadth of services and expertise to help people whatever their housing, care, or support needs.

Our Human Resources team is friendly and we love what we do. We are passionate about the high-quality service we provide to all of our customers, who are also our colleagues across One Housing.

We offer our colleagues a friendly, collaborative workplace and the chance to build a rewarding career with a not-for-profit organisation that is proud to make a genuine difference to people’s lives, each and every day.

Join our Human Resources team as a HR Manager

Our Human Resources service sits at the heart of what we do. By providing outstanding support to our colleagues we enable them to be their best at work - creating a well-managed, diverse and engaged workforce.

The variety in the team’s work, from onboarding and payroll to wellbeing initiatives, reflects the breadth of services we offer and the invaluable support provided to the wider One Housing workforce.

We’re an organisation with strong values. We keep our promises; we do a great job; we value diversity; we work together; and we look for ways to improve. These are what make us such a great team, working together as one to achieve our vision.

The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of HR Manager partly based in our bright modern offices in Camden and partly based working at home remotely on a hybrid basis, with occasional travel to different frontline schemes  around London. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide a high-quality proactive HR service to our major Care & Support operation employing circa 1000 people, focused on constructive people solutions, business outcomes and results.
  • Provide high level HR expertise and confident management to support and develop the HR team to deliver effective services.
  • In partnership with the Head of HR, be responsible for the effective delivery of HR operational service for the Care and Support directorate by a dedicated HR Team. For example, payroll, ER case management, overseeing smooth onboarding, restructures and TUPE transfers.
  • With the support of the Head of HR, act as a point of escalation for the HR Advisors to resolve and progress more complex people issues at the earliest point, in the context of high levels of external quality of service regulation.
  • Contribute to workforce planning and making efficiency improvements in a tight financial margin, care delivery business.
  • Coach and guide managers on the full range of HR policies, processes and practices, including resourcing; performance management; employee engagement; organisational development; talent management; reward & recognition and change management.
  • Contribute to HR policy review, development and roll-out across the organisation.
  • Working closely with the wider HR Team, to collaborate on identifying and delivering improvements in services, systems, processes and policies.

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who believes in working together as part of a team, who shares our values and who is friendly, resilient and engaging. The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of generalist HR service delivery, advising managers at all levels, including leading on resolving complex Employee Relations cases minimising legal risk but meeting business needs, including handling dismissals and internal appeals.
  • Experience of managing change as HR Lead through restructures and TUPE transfers
  • Ability to coach and influence managers on people issues and present at training workshops on HR issues for managers
  • Ability to manage, motivate and develop a team of HR professionals to deliver of their best
  • Good understanding of political sensitivities and wider implications of decisions taken, including understanding the impact of working within a regulatory framework
  • Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills to manage a busy workload and to oversee HR transactional systems and process work as well as HR advice work across the team
  • Preferably some experience of working in not-for-profit organisations, with an understanding of the distinctive culture and working practices.
