Job Description

What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

The Role:

The HPC Solutions Engineering team at AMD is looking for an HPC Solution Architect to drive AMD’s technical engagement

with the world’s leading HPC software companies, covering a broad set of HPC applications across multiple verticals. This is a

hands-on role working with software providers to optimize their solutions on AMD architectures, allowing the architect to

stay engaged at a technical level. The HPC Solution Architect will also lead long-term optimization discussions with software

providers based on AMD’s forward-looking roadmap and provide technical presentations to software companies. The

candidate must be able to clearly articulate the technical differentiation and value proposition of AMD’s product

roadmap. The HPC Solution Architect will also influence AMD’s product portfolio by providing the product management team

with insights into the needs of datacenter software companies.

The Person:

The Solution Architect must have a solid understanding of software development, of how CPU architectural elements

impact system performance, and be a credible subject matter expert to software partners on AMD product capabilities.

The role will work closely with both the business and engineering teams within AMD, while establishing relationships

throughout the HPC software eco-system.

The HPC Solution Architect will engage with software partner architects and engineers to jointly work on performance

optimizations, develop benchmarking plans, develop technical collateral (presentations, whitepapers, ..) to position AMD

products in target market segments, and co-develop joint partner demos and proof-points. The role may also work with

partners to create SOW for implementations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on experience tuning server systems at the node, rack, and datacenter level, and optimizing performance of scale-out HPC applications using OpenMP and various MPI implementations.
  • Deep understanding of the software development ecosystem, including compilers, math libraries, and performance
  • profiling/debug tools.
  • Knowledgeable at both software application development level and at the CPU architecture level.
  • Ability to independently manage technical relationships with software partners.

Education:

  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science/Engineering or an HPC related quantitative/scientific field with 5 years of relevant experience,
  • or a Bachelor’s degree in these fields with 10+ years of experience.
