The Head of Technology is a strong leader with excellent PHP development and architectural skills.  They will be focused on ensuring that the delivery squads are working to a high cadence whilst creating solutions that are built to the right quality and following architectural principles which they will help to lay out with their team.

Reporting to the CTO, this position is highly visible in the organisation and will need to be able to communicate across the organisation.

 

Main responsibilities

 

  • Deliver the technical strategy laid out by the CTO.
  • Oversee software development and delivery.
  • Ensure Tribes have necessary tools to deliver.
  • Provide technical guidance on delivery.
  • Work across the organisation to break down silos between development and non-technical departments.
  • Day-to-day line management of QA and Development.
  • Ensure frequent delivery of software and technology into production.
  • Collaborate with the product team and internal departments to agree achievable delivery plans.
  • Ensure the overall platform architecture remains robust and is not compromised by frequent change across multiple squads.
  • Provide line management and leadership to the development team and quality assurance function.
  • Work with the Head of Technical Operations take ownership of Production issues to drive swift resolution
  • Keep architectural documentation up to date.
  • Provide KPI and progress reports in a timely manner.

Required experience, knowledge, and skills

  • Full software life-cycle experience working on complex products within Agile environments.
  • Work in a matrix environment.
  • Resource line management.
  • Ability to work with and manage multiple simultaneous teams.
  • Understanding and implementation of various working models.
  • Understanding of CI/CD.
  • Architecture experience.
  • A good understanding of cloud infrastructure.
  • Understanding and appreciation of software quality assurance processes.
  • The ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and be adept at balancing shifting priorities and time management.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Must have strong organisational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated, driven, and detail-oriented.

Beneficial  experience, knowledge, and skills

  • Knowledge of tooling to support the development and production process for crash reporting, Github, docker, firebase, JIRA, etc.
  • Software development experience with LAMP stack.
  • Working with and managing distributed teams in multiple time zones.
  • Understanding of AWS.
  • Experience with a scale up business.
  • Previous work experience in the fintech space.
