The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Head of Learning & Development partly based in our bright modern offices in Camden and partly based working at home remotely on a hybrid basis, with occasional travel to different frontline schemes sites around London. This role is initially fixed term for 18 months with a possible extension or permanent position at the end of the contract. We would also consider a part time candidate for this role, working 3 or 4 days a week or shorter working days. 

Reporting to the HR Director, your responsibilities will include:

  • In line with our People Strategy, to oversee the creation, delivery and evaluation of learning strategies and development programmes which build management and other specific specialist skills and capabilities amongst groups of employees to meet business need.
  • Lead on training needs analysis to inform and shape the L&D provision and plans, in conjunction with L&D Team members (currently three) and specialist staff in various departments who lead on specific training and development activities in their business areas.
  • Ensure that the L&D Team develops bespoke learning programmes and initiatives for specific groups of staff across the organisation and lead on liaison with relevant managers to ensure effective delivery and embedding of learning.
  • Manage relationships and commercial terms with both external L&D suppliers, our own Apprenticeship Team and other joint internally/externally facing learning programmes.
  • Oversee the development and ongoing maintenance of effective organisation-wide induction training for new starters and mandatory training for all staff to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead on quality assurance, evaluation and KPI measures for L&D activities and policies.
  • Proactively promote L&D best practice to the HR Team, managers at all levels and the wider workforce.
  • Work closely with the internal Communications Team within the wider HR Team in order to launch campaign strategies that facilitate organisational understanding of and engagement with L&D activities.
  • Oversee the development and expenditure of the annual L&D budget, forecasting spend in consultation with Finance Business Partner

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who believes in working together as part of a team, who shares our values and who is friendly, resilient and engaging. The successful candidate will:

  • Experience of leading a L&D function, preferably within a not-for-profit context, with a track record of meeting strategic business needs successfully
  • A good grasp on how to blend formal, informal and digital methodologies to provide holistic learning solutions which meet business needs
  • Experienced presenter and facilitator of development activities, with ability to oversee the design of high quality, effective learning content, delivered through both classroom and digital channels
  • Confident user of technology to support digital and remote learning
  • Experience in managing budgets and achieving value for money outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills
