“The Sky OTT Client department within Global Video Engineering & Apps develops and builds our Client applications (NOW and Sky Ticket) across Europe. As Head of the department, you’ll be the main lead of around 200 engineers covering the following areas/devices: iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV, LG, Samsung, Play Station, Xbox, Chromecast, YouView and Web” – Director of Global Video Engineering & Apps

What you’ll do:

Lead a team of software engineers, analysts and testers to ensure predictably development roadmaps, establishing and agreeing best practice to improve the effectiveness, predictability and quality of software delivery

Take responsibility for the engineering practices in the teams to ensure software resilience is built into the products and delivery is fast and predictable; also managing the technical direction of the applications/products through alignment with peers in other parts of the department

Build effective working relationships between your teams and other technology teams to ensure collaboration and ultimately the delivery of functionality to end customers

Build an effective working relationship with the stakeholders requesting delivery from the teams

Take ownership of the delivery status of the teams, balancing the requests from stakeholders for a defined delivery date with the agile delivery method

Keep aware and ensure appropriate communication of any delivery issues, dependencies and/or risks to the roadmap

Monitor and assess the demands for resources across the area and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet the customer demands whilst ensuring effective and efficient delivery

Work with senior leadership inside and outside of the team to negotiate and agree on how dependencies will be managed and assured

Whatyou’ll bring:

Hands-on technical background

Expertise in the full life-cycle of software engineering, including Project Management, Requirement Analysis, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Automation & Unit Testing in a software development environment

Prior expertise in software engineering for web frontend applications and building scalable web applications

Expertise in frontend application architecture and associated design patterns

Expertise in areas such as application and system security, being able to create threat models and support others in applying security techniques

Expertise in values and principles of agile delivery frameworks and practices, including Scrum, Kanban and XP

Expertise in managing teams of differing levels of maturity and skillset, being able to grow cross-functional teams made up of engineers, analysts and testers

Exceptional listening, written and verbal communication skills

The Office:

Our Osterley campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury, Acton Town and Ealing Broadway tube stations. There’s also plenty of parking, bike shelters and showers.
