Graphics Processor Software Model Engineer

THE ROLE:

The role of the Graphics Processor Software Functional Model Engineer includes these aspects:

Feature Development: Functional Model engineers work with architects on ideas, called features, to improve AMD’s graphics processor. You will develop knowledge of the new features and implement them in the model.  The model is used for functional and performance verification of the graphics and compute pipelines for all our future products. This work ensures that the new features function as envisioned and correctly interact with existing features.

Model Enhancement: The Functional Model is written in C++. You would have the opportunity to leverage your software engineering expertise to improve the model in a number of aspects such as wall-clock runtime, memory consumption, and complexity.

THE PERSON:

As a GPU modeling engineer, you will work in a hardware/software codesign environment to craft industry leading simulation platforms and tools. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled software designer and engineer, who is proficient in C++, and familiar with hardware architecture. Knowledge of the GPU hardware architecture is an advantage. The candidate will work in a big team environment on a variety of opportunities, so teamwork and drive are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with architects, hardware engineers, and firmware engineers to understand the new features being proposed to improve our product’s performance, functionality, and cost
• Design, implement, and test new features for our next-generation products in the software model
• Participate in debugging failing tests to determine if the root cause is an error in the RTL code, software model, or the test; fix all identified failures in the software model

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• C/C++ programming and debug in a Linux environment
• Software modeling and simulation tools
• Graphics pipeline knowledge a plus

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
