The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to be a part of our Civil Engineering Unit which aims to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and practical solutions for engineering works within Sydney Trains.
The Geotechnical Engineer provides technical expertise and support relating to geotechnical engineering. In this role you will carry out geotechnical risk assessments, analysis and design, investigation, technical reviews, research and development, including response to emergency request for field inspection and advice.
You will be part of a friendly and helpful team that is passionate about safety and have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience introducing new innovative technologies to manage geotechnical risk to ensure the safety and reliability of rail operations is maintained Typical projects include:
Periodic risk site inspection for geotechnical risk assessment
Geotechnical instrumentations and technological advances for monitoring of ground movement
Opportunities for numerical modelling of various challenging geotechnical problems such as using Slope/W, OptumG2 and Rockfall
Use of drone technology for geotechnical assessment and design
Introducing new innovative technologies to manage the geotechnical risk
Provide geotechnical support during stabilisation works
Attend geotechnical emergencies when required
You will have the ability to identify geotechnical problems as well as determine appropriate solutions aligning to relevant codes of practice, standards, and the regulatory rail and geotechnical engineering environment. If you are someone who has good communication skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and enjoys working in a collaborative environment within a team that is passionate about safety then this role is for you.
What will it take?
We are looking for someone with a Tertiary degree in Civil Engineering with knowledge and experience in risk assessments and hazard management of rock cuttings and embankment slopes, geotechnical designs, , slope stability and stress analysis using numerical methods such as finite element (FEM), geotechnical investigation, foundation design and instrumentation monitoring
