Responsibilities:
- Reviews accounts payable invoices for coding and tax accuracy, makes cost accrual entries to ensure accurate month end cut-off of expenses, and reconciles accounts payable subledgers and accrual accounts to the general ledger, making adjustments if required.
- Prepares and posts monthly standard and adjusting entries after analyzing monthly financial data, production quantities and sales data, and reconciling equipment costs to G/L.
- Performs cost analysis, explaining product cost variances and identifying inventory discrepancies.
- Analyzes financial information to identify and investigate significant variances to budgets and provide explanations to support the Divisional Controller in finalizing financial statements.
- Provides additional analysis of financial data to respond and resolve inquiries from colleagues as required.
- Prepares monthly Corporate tax and HST remittances and investigates significant variances to ensure accuracy of returns and avoid penalties.
- Updates fixed assets records to delete/transfer assets, compares additions to budget, and processes monthly depreciation to provide accurate fixed asset valuation at month-end.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end files for the annual financial audit and responds to audit inquiries as required, in support to the Divisional Controller to assist in an efficient year-end audit. Assists the Divisional Controller in developing annual budgets and forecasts, coordinating with operations.
- Administers and reconciles employee advance accounts to ensure expense reports are submitted and filed in a timely manner, reporting delinquent/late expense reports to the manager.
- Attends meetings and collaborates with the operations team to identify opportunities for process and system improvements.
- Provides backup support for the Operations Analyst, as required.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned, including those given by the divisional Executive Vice President.
Requirements
- Experience of at least three years of relevant accounting work, preferably in an industrial setting, specifically with: General ledger accounting; Financial analysis; Cost accounting; Fixed asset accounting. University education in the field of accounting or related field;
- Has obtained, or is actively working towards, a detail oriented accounting designation;
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills – including pivots, macros and advanced formulas for analysis;
- Experience with Oracle is an asset;
- Valid driver's license to facilitate travel between work locations and passport for possible, infrequent travel to U.S. operations (1-2 times/year).
