Bring your design and research skills to drive innovation in Teachable AI experiences through imagining the future of inclusion in a multidisciplinary team at Microsoft Research.

 

The Teachable AI Experiences Team (Future of Work), Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is seeking a design researcher who can contribute to our multi-disciplinary team driving innovation in Teachable AI experiences through building, deploying, and studying novel experiences that imagine the future of inclusion of people with disabilities in our digital culture.

 

The position offers a unique opportunity contribute to state-of-the-art research at the intersection of AI and human-computer interaction in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. This role includes: 

  • Conceptualizing and developing innovative AI experiences
  • Prototyping, iterating and testing experiences teachable AI experiences
  • Designing for inclusion through working directly with users
  • Develop showables / materials to help the team innovation process and engage external audiences

 

The candidate will demonstrate thought leadership in innovating AI in ways that enable new applications for inclusion of people with disabilities and the larger social good. The team has a strong focus and track record of real-world impact and the ways it can motivate innovation alongside publications.

Responsibilities

  • Propose creative solutions to complex user experience journeys, drawing on your ability to map end-to-end experiences
  • Create wireframes, journey maps, personas and scenarios in support of interaction designs
  • Plan, carry-out and facilitate qualitative user research (user studies, workshops, focus groups, usability tests)
  • Summarize and communicate research findings.
  • Develop the project's design strategy based on technology constraints and research findings.

Qualifications

Required

  • Masters or PhD in human-computer interaction or design
  • Strong visual and/or auditory design skills
  • Ability to synthesize findings and requirements from user research or product partners
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. 

Desired

  • Experience designing AI system interfaces
  • Ability to lead ideation activities to support multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Budding leadership capability to drive own work in the context of the team goals
  • Experience engaging with people with disabilities.
