Job Description

Contribute to state-of-the-art research at the intersection of AI and human-computer interaction in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team developing new Teachable AI experiences for inclusion.

 

Teachable AI Experiences Team (Future of Work), Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is seeking a researcher who can contribute to our multi-disciplinary team driving innovation in Teachable AI experiences through building, deploying, and studying novel experiences that imagine the future of inclusion of people with disabilities in our digital culture.

 

The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to state-of-the-art research at the intersection of AI and human-computer interaction in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. This role will shape the development of models, metrics, methods that underpin AI systems that directly support the inclusion of people with disabilities in our digital culture. The team has a strong focus and track record of real-world impact and the ways it can motivate innovation alongside publications.

 

The candidate will demonstrate thought leadership in innovating AI in ways that enable new applications for inclusion of people with disabilities and the larger social good. They may bring deep expertise in: human-in-the-loop machine learning, intelligibility, metric development, teachable AI, responsible AI or related area.  As a team effort, the candidate should possess strong communication skills to work across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake cutting-edge research to drive better human-in-the-loop systems.
  • Engage in prototype development and user research
  • Collaboration with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team in building real-world AI-driven experiences.
  • Clearly communicate research ideas and results in writing, such as research papers, presentations, or research notes for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

Required

  • PhD in a related discipline
  • Demonstrable understanding of human-AI systems (e.g. through publications, demos, course projects, etc.).
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. 

Desired

  • Demonstrable expertise in any of the following areas: user research, metric development, teachable AI, interpretability
  • Passion for human-centric applications of AI for social good (e.g. assistive technologies for people who are blind/low-vision).
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team with diverse skill sets.
  • Experience engaging with people with disabilities.
