What you'll do
- Performs the full spectrum of configuration and support tasks for all Broadband and Talk hosted, and remotely managed, Unix and Linux Operating Systems, including:
- Installation, configuration and upgrades
- Security and hardening
- Storage, I/O monitoring and sizing/capacity planning
- Patch and package management
- Performance tuning and monitoring availability and performance
- Networking configuration and support
- Scripting, for the development of tools and/or monitoring scripts etc.
- Providing problem resolution on systems for internal and external customers
- May provide mentoring and leadership to other Systems Engineers and support staff
- Develops procedures for Computer Operations staff
- Provides training on systems for Computer Operations staff
- Performs other duties as requested
What you'll bring
- Experience in the areas of change management, capacity planning, incident tracking and reporting, monitoring and alerting, system upgrades, backup and recovery required
- You must ensure that compliance with data protection legislation under the DPA, EU GDPR, any other applicable data protection legislation.
- Oncall support (out of office hours)
- Excellent knowledge of Unix and Linux server administration
- Solaris administration, including Zones would be desirable
- Enterprise level storage systems knowledge would be advantageous
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostics skills
- Excellent communication, documentation and customer skills
- A basic knowledge of Oracle databases and VMware vSphere virtualisation would be useful
- A flexible and adaptable approach is essential, to accommodate the ever-changing requirements and priorities of a busy technical team and to work within customer requirements and schedules
- Attention to detail, flexibility, a pragmatic approach and a passion for new technologies
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills
- The ability to multi-task between different customers and environments
