Job Description

The Bank is investing in building an experienced engineering team who will be responsible for developing and operating the renewed RTGS service. Your role will be responsible for influencing the design and implementation of an updated payment gateway solution. You will work closely with other technology teams and domains to lead the work to automate infrastructure provision and embed Agile development methodology.

As the Swift Technical Assurance SME you will ultimately be responsible for ensuring that design of the new SWIFT estate and associated interfaces are fit for purpose. This includes steering and supporting crucial design decisions, with a focus on ensuring that the banks solutions are supportable long term.   Since the Renewal programme is being delivered in partnership with a delivery partner, we will be looking for you to balance the short term programme interests against the banks longer term interests, with the ability to operate at a senior level, combining knowledge and people skills to help lead on key decisions.

 

You will be accountable for a range of activities, including: 

  • Able to pioneer and own technical expertise that spans all areas of the Banks external payment interfaces.
  • In the context of our agile methodology, help teams agree and meet delivery commitments.
  • Being involved in the supplier processes (deep dives, vendor assessments etc).
  • Provision of critical insight on designs and code reviews at a low level of technical detail.
  • Delivering and presenting Proofs of Concept variants to users.
  • Phasing/Migration planning: Contributing and identifying key constraints around migration from as-is to new.
  • Managing multiple tasks and using sound judgment when prioritizing.
  • Able to articulate a vision for the evolution of the Banks Payment Gateway interfaces.
  • Providing input and technical assurance of messaging and interface designs associated to payment messaging.
  • Review and management of road maps and change activity associated to payment messaging systems.
  • Provisioning and ongoing maintenance of interface and solution designs.
  • Engagement and management of external vendors concerning technical roadmaps and evolving functionality.
  • Mentoring and coaching in support of the Banks wider SWIFT and messaging capabilities.

  • Experience working with large blue chip System Integrators
  • Technical Competencies
    • Significant experience with SWIFT products and interfaces (e.g. SWIFT Alliance Messaging Hub, SWIFT Alliance Gateway).
    • Significant experience with ISO 20022 messaging standards and services (e.g. SWIFT Alliance Messaging Hub, SWIFT Alliance Gateway).
    • Understanding of RTGS and CHAPS messaging interfaces and schemas.
    • Experience with large IT projects.
    • Understanding of networking protocols, basic firewall rules.
    • Experience of building and operating highly available, mission critical architecture, distributed systems and micro services architecture, containerisation with underlying Devops strategy and practices.
    • Broad experience with financial, accounting or payments systems, products and services supporting the payment services in the financial industry.

Desirable Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software or Electronic Engineering or other related discipline.
  • Broad experience with financial, accounting or payments systems, products and services supporting the payment services in the financial industry.
  • Working understanding of Technology Automation Tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible)

This specific role offers a base salary from £83,780 - £106,200 per annum, along with our comprehensive benefits package as follows:

•    A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
•    A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
•    A 7% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. (Note that from April 2023 and for the Benefits year 2023/24, this will increase to 8%)
•    26 days annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits. (Note: effective from April 2023)
•    Private medical insurance and income protection.
