Job Description

About us

Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas across NSW – and you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

About the team

The Infrastructure and Place division is charged with the delivery of an ambitious and once-in-a generation program of public infrastructure works. We are developing and delivering smart, integrated, and sustainable infrastructure and places that are valued by our customers and communities.

The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations, and management of our Transport network. We are the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Director Advanced Technical Services; you will provide the overarching project direction and management to deliver effective interface coordination and control, technical direction and drive collaboration and co-creation across a range of Technical Services (I&P), Transport, Government and industry multi-disciplinary expertise to align with and support the practical and progressive implementation of Transport’s sustainability goals in the development and delivery of infrastructure. You will work closely and collaboratively with the Policy & Strategy setters and subject matter experts across the agency, most notably within our SER Environment & Sustainability teams.

The role will be responsible for overall program and change management across a range of concurrent workstreams including procurement reform and the provision of specific and tailored technical advice to our project teams and asset custodians to ensure that technical requirements for sustainable outcomes are consistently articulated and realised at a project and operational level.

Key accountabilities include (but not limited to):

  • Responsible for the consistent application of technical best practice in the specification, procurement and application of decarbonisation and circularity outcomes aligned with governing policy and strategic settings. Across all stages of the project and asset lifecycle, as appropriate.
  • Working extensively with Environment & Sustainability stakeholders for the operationalisation and implementation of sustainable solutions, whilst remaining abreast of current and emerging sustainability issues and trends, including global best practice.
  • Develop a deep understanding of project teams objectives to support the optimal deployment of technical services in line with best practice delivery of engineering services.
  • Provide and co-ordinate specialist technical and engineering advice to ensure the procurement and use of sustainable materials are supported.
  • Undertake a highly collaborative and continuous improvement approach, whilst building effective internal and external relationships and partnerships.
  • Build, maintain and develop necessary stakeholder relationships acrossTfNSW as well as with a range of cross-Government, industry and academia entities
