Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand enterprise data sources, their dependencies, and its impact on tax compliance.
  • Perform data analytics on large volumes of data and ensure integrity of data extracts.
  • Ensure tax compliance throughout the reporting life cycle. 
  • Responsible to deliver meaningful analytics through the creation of interactive dashboards and/or other data visualizations to support tax decision making.
  • Responsible to transform tax datasets into actionable insights and/or recoveries.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acquire and maintain a solid understanding of data assets to provide optimal tax reporting solutions.
  • Develop and/or update reports to support the implementation of new and/or changes to Ticket Taxes, Fees, and Charges.
  • Monitor data outputs for accuracy and tax compliance.
  • Support tax audits by ensuring supporting data extracts are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Design guidelines, training materials, job aids for the Tax Department or other business units as required.
  • Support continuous optimization by promoting manual recurrent reports into automated power reports and innovate using leading analytic techniques.
  • Support the implementation of new tax legislation and verify corporate compliance with the changes in tax rates and relevant changes in legislation.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, Maintenance, Marketing, and other departments as required on tax issues. 
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support end-to-end testing of any new system implementation and/or modifications to ensure compliant tax reporting requirements.
  • Assist Director, Tax Technology, Data and Reporting with related duties.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business or Finance
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • Related work experience in commodity tax (GST/HST, QST, PST, Excise Tax and Fuel Tax) field is an asset.
  • Advanced MS Office (i.e., Excel, Word & PowerPoint) and MS Power Platform (i.e., Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, etc.)
  • Experience performing data analysis using data analytical tools such as SQL, ACL or IDEA is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large and complex technical data with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in an agile team environment that requires solving complex, open-ended problems with minimal guidance.
