About this role

An exciting opportunity to join the Openreach Civil Engineering organisation. The organisation is positioned to provide all openreach business units with civil engineering capability across the UK. This primarily involves Openreach activity relating to excavation and reinstatement in the public and private land. Elements of cabling, jointing and copper repair (e.g. on maintenance digs) are also features of the evolving team.   

Your prime role will be to ensure work is delivered safely, compliantly, legally, efficiently, and in accordance with Openreach and industry quality standards. You will also be expected to drive all commercial aspects of your operation including gang costs, profit & loss, revenue, etc.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • The key responsibility of the role – Assist to ensure all vehicles are operational, maintained and operated safely, compliantly, legally, efficiently across the civil engineering team in accordance with Openreach and industry standards 
  • Accountable for all mechanical and design aspects of the civil engineering fleet
  • Support each Regional team for them to deliver their transport management and compliance activities
  • Leadership of civil engineering transport strategy
  • Assist in the support and identify ongoing civil engineering innovation opportunities, present compelling evidence for change, then recommend solutions. This also includes creating bespoke projects and then driving benefits through effective implementation
  • Work with, and influence, multiple stakeholders (including directors and senior managers) across Openreach and BT group
  • Attend meetings to help RCOMS and their direct reports to understand our transport needs and innovations
  • Provide transport subject matter expertise
  • Work in conjunction with local RCOM teams to audit and ensure transport compliance in each region
  • Assist the Setting up a national fleet/transport helpdesk to provide field teams with exemplary transport services

You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Experience of successfully managing transport  services for a large organisation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong organisation skills , ability to delegate
  • Ability to work in fast-moving and evolving environment
  • Time management and problem solving skills
  • Experience of managing or supervising a maintenance team
  • Commercial awareness
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Project and implementation skills
  • Analytical skills , and working with Microsoft Excel
  • CPC holder
  • O Licence holder (desirable)
