Role: Fixture Development Manager (Store Design)

Purpose of role: This role will be responsible for supporting the strategic development of the brand by taking concept designs through to in-store retail fixture solutions. The development stage should retain concept aesthetics whilst ensuring durability, cost efficiency and sustainability are baked into everything we deliver. The Fixture Development Manager will be responsible for all fixture developments, working closely with Store Development and Procurement with a focus on value engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Delivery:

  • Responsible for ensuring fixture designs are delivered from concept design through to roll out into existing estate and new stores.
  • Full understanding of the end to end process including 2D planning, design development, prototyping and pilots.
  • Develop concept designs into fixture GA’s and edit drawings created by 3rd parties for review.
  • Responsible for reviewing fixture drawing packs, ensuring all details are provided by 3rd parties.
  • Provide all information on approved fixture designs so they can be added to the Guru system in a consistent manner
  • Ensure sustainability and our Primark Cares values are at the core of our designs
  • Be aware of the operational abilities of store staff, ensuring fixtures are developed to match their needs and capabilities.
  • Manage the creation of guidelines and presentations to support the delivery, assembly and installation of new equipment as required.

Project Management:

  • Define and agree clear and acceptable projects timelines based on the requirements of the business, track projects throughout and ensure on time delivery.

Budget Management:

  • Manage fixture costs throughout the development of new designs and value engineering where necessary without reducing quality and aesthetics below acceptable levels.
  • Work collaboratively and partner with suppliers and procurement to establish costs for fixtures at each stage from prototyping, pilot European and far east production.
  • Provide cost data to support capex applications for fixture roll outs.

Research:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of POS sizes to ensure they are integrated correctly into new designs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of production techniques, materials and finishes both traditional and contemporary, production methods and carbon footprints to ensure we stay at the cutting edge of what’s possible.
  • Maintain material samples and finishes library within Primark
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current fixtures and profiles

People & Collaboration:

  • Manage a network of external suppliers to provide fixture development through to prototyping services.
  • Manage internal relationships with Procurement and small works and construction to facilitate the costing, procurement and transition of fixture design from prototypes to BAU
  • Work with the EHS team to develop the performance criteria for testing, ensuring all designs are safe and fully documented.
  • Develop strong working relationships with all key stakeholders.
  • Present accurate business information to key business stakeholders as required.
  • Positively challenge colleagues and inform and influence decision making.

Key Interactions and engagement with as part of role:

Reporting to the Head of Store Design, the Fixture Development Manager will work collaboratively and partner with the Store Design team and feed their expertise and insights into the wider business strategy.

This role will also be required to partner closely and collaborate with the Procurement team, EHS team and Construction and Implementation teams.

Essential knowledge, education, skills and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in fixture development and production
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD skills a high level of design skills
  • Strong organisational skills with a can-do attitude and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to sketch and hand draw is an advantage
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing standards, materials and construction methods
  • Self-starter able to work under own initiative, taking projects from start to finish
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to trouble shoot during the course of a project
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, team based, deadline-oriented environment.
  • The ability to effectively manage complex tasks and prioritise multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Must have a natural design flair and critical eye for detail.
  • Ability to travel globally when required.
