Job Summary: 

  • The Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for financial reporting processes including variance analysis, and hands-on responsibility for the planning and forecasting processes.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Financial accounting and reporting processes, including the preparation of period-end financial statements and required variance analysis and support for all internal and external stakeholders for the Canadian business
  • Follow planning and forecasting processes, including maintenance and improvement of excel-based planning models while utilizing SAP and Oracle reporting tools
  • Ensure that all financial regulated rate case requirements are responded to in a timely manner
  • Responsible for implementing process optimization initiatives to improve the timeliness and accuracy of financial reports
  • Interpret and review financial and operational results with the Leadership Team, including marketplace trends, issues and opportunities
  • Ability to independently investigate key issues impacting the financial performance of the Canadian business and manage other ad hoc requests from the Canadian Leadership Team as they arise

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime is required as special projects arise
  • Minimal travel
  • Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 1-2 days a week in the office.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent.
  • Professional finance/accounting designation, or in the process of completing (CPA, CMA, CA, CGA, CFA, or MBA)
  • At least 1 year of experience working in public accounting or corporate FP&A
  • A broad cross-section of experience that includes an understanding of US GAAP and IFRS, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, and tax and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent MS Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communication and stakeholder management – the ability to build positive relationships, influence, and constructively challenge
  • Commercial acumen – operations and industry perspective; ability to link performance to external factors
  • Strategic thinking – ability to step away from detail and see the bigger picture to help shape the future
  • Critical financial thinking – ability to interrogate, analyze and derive insight from data; intellectually curious
  • Systems expertise – in key finance systems (SAP, Oracle)
  • Strong technical accounting and financial planning skills gained through public practice or similar role in a large organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently maintains, or is working towards, a CPA designation
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably with SAP / Oracle
