Project Overview
Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by Western Sydney Airport Co as its Delivery Partner for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales. This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia and is due for completion at the end of 2026.
Western Sydney Airport will provide much-needed additional aviation capacity to meet growing demand in the Sydney basin and improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney. One of Australia's most significant infrastructure projects in decades, the international and domestic airport will open in 2026, bringing social and economic prosperity to the Western Sydney region. Position Overview
The Package Field Engineer Electrical and Fire Life Services will directly report to the Area Manager MEP for the Terminal Package. Attend weekly Contractor progress meetings between Contractors, Subcontractors, WSA Delivery Partner (DP), and WSACo.
Interface with WSADP Engineering, WASDP Construction Interface and WSADP Contract Management teams to ensure Electrical and Fire Life Services delivery priorities for the Terminal package are maintained and review quality documentation, quantity verification,schedules and costs.
Input, review and expedite trend estimates for items extending beyond the current scope of project prepared by WSADP Project Controls.
Working as a Representative of Bechtel as WSA's Delivery Partner the Package Field Engineer will report on quality, quantity and technical aspects of the Terminal package or portions of a package, maintain regular WSA contact for progress of work, exchange of information and advice.
What you bring
Provide input into the Area Manager monthly quality, quantity and technical reviews as required.
Provide input into the project procedures for construction, as required.
Coordinate engineering efforts with Site Manager, Area Manager, Procurement, Construction, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) and Project Controls when required.
Review design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for construction associated with the Contractor's scope of works.
Review the flow of information required from third party companies or D & C Contractors to facilitate the timely progress of the engineering work.
Assist with requests for specialized third-party professional services as required.
Initiate WSADP and WSACo correspondence related to the engineering portion of the contract package.
Review project engineering progress, quality records and quantity verification against approved schedules, evaluate changes and advise corrective action when required.
Bring both cost and schedule changes/deviations to the attention of the Area Manager MEP for inclusion in the project Critical Items Action Report, Project Trend Register, weekly and monthly reports.
Provide input into Daily Reports and assist with project weekly and monthly reporting to management.
Assist with the preparation of project studies, reports and forecasts when required.
Provide input to Technical Risk Assessments, safety practices and procedures, and engineering design as required.
Communicate technical issues and recommend solutions as required.
Promote the creation of a project work environment, supported by leadership on the project / program, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Participate with regular performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions with employees under their control.
Review of Contractor quality systems including Contractor Hold Points, RFI and NCR, management systems.
About you
Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of building information modelling, 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.
Proficient knowledge of project construction processes and procedures.
Sound working knowledge of Contract Management.
Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
Advanced skill in oral and written communication.
A recognized degree in Engineering from an accredited university and demonstrated skill in Field Engineering.
Must have strong Electrical and Fire Life Services specific experience
13+ years of Field Engineering experience on large construction projects (experience in the management of construction, Field Engineering or Design Engineering for major Infrastructure or Aviation Projects is an advantage)
Sound working knowledge of Australian Standards and Australian Government specifications and codes
Sound working knowledge on Building occupancy certification process.
Working knowledge on the testing, commissioning, and handing over of the Electrical and Fire Life Services is preferred.
