The Opportunity
We need to tell a brilliant and compelling story that sets out our digital agenda and builds the reputation of BT Digital within the wider digital community.
That’s where you come in. As the external communications manager, you’ll be responsible for a few big things:
• To build and protect the reputation of BT Digital with external stakeholders and audiences
• Develop and implement impactful communications programmes to support our digital communications strategy, to influence a wide variety of external stakeholders through a broad range of channels - from national press and analysts to online digital communities and social media.
What you'll be doing
• Work with our PR agency to review a wide range of press, social media, customer, and policy requests and manage the request to the best possible outcome.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists that influence perceptions of BT Digital in trade, national and regional media.
• Develop and execute proactive campaigns, activities and announcements that support broader company objectives.
• You will watch trends that affect our business and that are of general interest to our audiences, and report on them to a range of stakeholders internally as well as use them to inform our communications activities.
• You will provide communications counsel to a range of internal stakeholders and establishing yourself as a trusted advisor to key internal contacts that we support every day, from subject matter experts to Directors and MDs.
• You’ll be responsible for challenging default thinking on media and communications strategy, pushing the usual boundaries with creative thinking that sets a new tone for BT Digital.
• You’ll bring that same spirit of creativity to execution, developing and maintaining a wide range of external communications content, from images and video for our website and social media channels, to fact sheets and background documents.
• You’ll be a key member of our crisis management function, which does occasionally require out-of-hours support and is responsible for assessing and responding to crises across all channels.
Who you are
• Minimum 3-5 years working in a fast-paced, press office environment either in-house or at a PR agency
• Understanding of the UK media landscape and established relationships, or the proven ability to build key relationships, with relevant media
• Track record of landing successful proactive campaigns
• Background in and passion for technology or telecommunications a significant plus
• Excellent writer, with experience writing reactive media statements, features, press releases and content for social media
• Logical, curious, detail-oriented – ability to analyse complicated situations and communicate them in a clear and understandable way
• Ability to spot a story and ability to tap into our key audience’s passions
