Role: Ethical Trade Manager – Projects and Development
Purpose of role:

Reporting into the Ethical Trade and Environment Sustainability Lead – Technology and Systems, this role will develop, test and oversee the implementation into Primark’s Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Programme for all nominated new areas of Primark Business that are deemed as in scope for the ET / ES monitoring programme, whilst partnering with key stakeholders across ET / ES Team and Primark.

Role Overview:
We want visibility of all our supply chains and understand and record any issues which contravenes our Code of Conduct and opens us up to risk. The current commercial landscape of Primark is expanding and the scope of the current ET / ES monitoring programme needs to adapt and develop in order to be able to sufficiently monitor the increasing diversity of Primark’s supply chains both for GSFS (Goods and Services for Sale) and GSNFS (Goods and Services Not For Sale).
Whilst the Global team compromises of over 130 specialists, central project management is required to oversee the development, test and implementation of ET / ES monitoring of new business areas.
Support the Ethical Trade and Environment Sustainability Lead – Technology and Systems in developing and incorporating monitoring requirements for new areas of the Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team on a global level to ensure protection of Primark’s ethical reputation and code of conduct through the complete supply chain.

This role will involve a wide range of stakeholders within including but not limited to: -

• Primark Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Global Team,
• Procurement
• New Business (Primark)
• Primark EHS
• Legal
• Primark Cares
• ABF CR Hub

The projects core objectives will include:
Driving and Leading:

• Design and development of monitoring new areas of Primark Business for ET / ES Programme in terms of monitoring
• Operationalise Primark Social Monitoring Programme for new areas of business includes New business, GNFR, Services for Sale
• Development of support and monitoring for new areas of Primark Business (GNFR, Services in Store, Visual Merchandising, PSCP)
• Write initial monitoring process and report templates for in-country teams and / or other audit functions in Primark for test and development into Business as Usual.
• Explore any appropriate options for creating monitoring audit methodology that are scalable to ensure the ability to demonstrate compliance with Primark’s Code of Conduct in the most robust way possible Providing advice to Primark Cares Team in relation to wages data that is currently captured in ET / ES Audits
• Look to use the most up to date technology and monitoring methods available to create efficient use of resources available in the Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability teams.

Participatory Stakeholder / Influencer:

• Provide input relating to new areas of monitoring within ET / ES programme for Entropy replacement project
• Data compatibility between various Primark Systems (such as Sunflower T&T tool) and Entropy (Entropy Replacement) on Supplier’s supply chain data (production sites across all tiers) i.e. so there is one version of the truth
• Critical thinking for Environmental Sustainability Team on the use of factory data held on platforms (e.g. HIGG) for monitoring purposes
• Support Environmental Sustainability team’s understanding and awareness of existing processes and influences of the social programme in order to build ES monitoring
• Facilitating ES Team knowledge and awareness data / reports for their use in building / creating monitoring requirements as needed dependent on required reporting needs and legislation

Key Responsibilities:
The Ethical Trade Manager - Projects and Development will be accountable for developing and over-seeing the testing of monitoring requirements for new areas of the Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team on a global level. This role will also advise and influence thinking regarding monitoring and data for the Environmental Sustainability Team.

• As a part of the Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability team they will always operate with integrity.
• Responsible for developing, testing and embedding appropriate and scalable audit methodologies for new areas of the Primark ET / ES programme.
• Ensure consistency of standards across the global field teams in any new audit methodology to be able to ensure compliance with the Primark Supplier Code of Conduct (and Environmental Policy where appropriate
• Manage the project plan for all related projects ensuring that relevant stakeholders are identified and involved as appropriate.
• Utilizes existing Project management and reporting tools that exist within Primark.
• Co-ordinates the inputs for the project as required.
• Working with 3rd party audit providers, where applicable and Primark Ethical Trade Auditors to design and pilot monitoring approaches to auditing new areas / business
• Coordinates with the ET / ES teams so there is consistency of understanding of any new approach and seeks feedback to improve.

Key Interactions and engagement with as part of role:
The Ethical Trade Manager – Projects and Development will work with a diverse and potentially remote team of internal and external resources. They will ensure that all relevant stakeholders are included and informed of any trials and proposed new methodologies. Ensuring that any new approach is fully understood before being rolled out to scale. The Ethical Trade and Environment Sustainability Lead – Technology and Systems will agree and set the priorities for this role, but it is expected that the ETM will be able to manage and lead specific projects from beginning to end.

Essential knowledge, education, skills and experience:

• Experience in Ethical Trade and Social Auditing
• Factory audit and remediation processes (SA8000 preferred)
• Excellent organisation/communication skills
• A self-starter who is results driven in a fast-paced environment
• The ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders & across the business
• Understands the development of SLAs and processes
• Knowledge of Visio a benefit
• Excellent attention to detail and an ability to design and adapt an approach that works for the business
• Project Management experience a benefit.
• Able to cope with the diversity of cultures across the Primark ET Field Team
• Appreciates the bigger picture of the audit programme and its link into Primark as a business
