Job Description

We currently have two Enterprise Architect opportunities with one role focussing across our Direct Consumer and the second one supporting our Wholesale divisions alongside our Common Services software engineering tower.

You will own the technical strategy, future state vision and transitional approaches for applications platforms or technologies across the TalkTalk IT estate, shaping programmes and projects to advise stakeholders on the optimal approach, ensuring that our strategy meets the needs of the business.

Working alongside business stakeholders, solution architecture and delivery colleagues, the enterprise architect will ensure appropriate guard rails are established and ensure that we continue to live up to our Architecture Principles. Leveraging relationships with vendors, suppliers and industry best practice, the enterprise architecture will help shape and direct the TalkTalk IT strategy ensuring we deliver on our commitments to customers as we deliver fibre based connectivity services

The Team

Enterprise Architecture are a focused team of Principal and Enterprise Architects supporting both our direct and wholesale business units. They provide expertise across the TalkTalk IT estate having a broad understanding of how we deliver great connectivity to our customers.

The team ensures that our IT technology strategy is an enabler of the business strategy, maintaining a set of high plans giving direction to the wider software delivery community. Often called upon to provide technical consultancy and guidance for new and transformative initiatives we seek to provide sponsorship of strategic initiatives and ensure relevant governance is in place to ensure we live by our principles and long term objectives.

Architecture Strategy

  • Contribute to and take lead on technical discussions to determine future architecture direction
  • Ensure architecture strategy aligns with business goals and takes into account total-cost-of-ownership ensuring optimal value from our technology investments
  • Maintenance of architecture roadmaps
  • Assist in the communication of technology strategy to the wider business

Leadership

  • Demonstrate thought leadership and subject matter expertise
  • Be the recognised architectural owner and point of contact, maintaining visibility and engagement with stakeholders across technology and the wider business
  • Collaborate with and engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure technology innovations are assessed for suitability and appropriately adopted
  • Participate in business planning activities, informing prioritisation decisions

Collaboration

  • Collaboration with operational business and technical stakeholders in order to gain a full understanding of the customer experience, technical and business levers
  • Collaborate effectively with technical specialists across design, delivery and operations to ensure successful delivery of programmes and projects to cost, timescale and quality requirements
  • Continuous development of their own technical knowledge from the wider telecommunications and IT industry to ensure adoption of best practice and help to evolve the TalkTalk architecture strategy
  • Contribute to, and drive the adoption of principles, patterns, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and use of technology

Governance

  • Be accountable for ensuring projects and programmes maintain compliance with the TalkTalk architecture strategy, working with stakeholders to develop options and drive decision making; working with the Principal Architect to ensure approach is appropriately approved for implementation
  • Ensure that proposed solution are technically sound and functionally robust, working closely with programme management colleagues to ensure consistency of delivery with technical and business outcomes
  • Review and approve key architecture and solution documentation

Consultation

  • Provide an escalation point for stakeholders or programme leaders where complex technical issues need to be arbitrated or where tactical compromise is necessary
  • Consult with the business owners to better understand their challenges and help to develop architectural strategies to help address these
