We are currently seeking an Engineering Manager - Design Capability Leader to join our teams within our HS Marston facility in Wolverhampton. The Engineering Manager - Design Capability Leader will be a technical hands-on and people leader, able to inspire, influence and build a work-class workforce that creates a competitive advantage. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert in Design Tools and Design Processes.Â
Position Summary:Â
Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Engineering Manager - Design Capability Leader will be responsible for developing the technical capability of the Engineering function and manage resources across different teams and projects. The successful candidate will be an expert in product and systems design and definition processes and will have extensive experience in successfully managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in a complex project environment whilst remaining hands-on.Â
Responsibilities:Â
Responsible for the Engineering functional capability (including process, tools and people skills). This includes:Â
Product Development / New Product IntroductionÂ
Product and Production supportÂ
Research and Development projectsÂ
Configuration ManagementÂ
Test plant / Product validationÂ
Responsible for the delivery of engineering milestones across projects and components (especially aerospace heat exchangers), meeting or exceeding safety, lead-time, cost, quality and technical specifications/requirementsÂ
Facilitate and integrate efforts between the Engineering team, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business Development and other functionsÂ
Manage engineering resources:Â
Load and capacity managementÂ
Planning and budgetingÂ
People developmentÂ
Performance managementÂ
Build, lead and develop a team of design engineers with the appropriate level of skills and experience to deliver the engineering design solutionsÂ
Provide technical leadership and direction to the teamÂ
Mentor, coach and train the teamÂ
Define objectives and support development plansÂ
Lead design reviewsÂ
Supervise, check and validate design activities and deliverables through the product life cycleÂ
Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement and innovationÂ
Responsible for defining and applying the adequate processes and methods for product design, and ensuring process compliance within the team, including:Â
Requirements managementÂ
Change and Configuration managementÂ
Design optimisationÂ
Expertise in CAD tools (NX), PLM (Teamcenter)Â
Lean transformationÂ
Design for manufacturing (DFM)Â
Design validationÂ
Knowledge management (lessons learnt, design guides)Â
Develop and deliver an Engineering capability road map and contribute to the Company’s product strategy. Establish links with Universities, Research Centres and other relevant OrganisationsÂ
Minimum Requirements:Â
Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering disciplineÂ
Demonstrable technical and people leadership in previous rolesÂ
Demonstrable expertise in delivering complex design solutions and leading engineering teams, preferably in the Aerospace industry (heat exchangers)Â
Expertise in the design and definition process of complex products through the product life cycleÂ
Strategic planning and ability to build capability within a department through mentoring/coaching across a range of experience staff.Â
Expertise in CAD tools (ideally NX) and PLM (Teamcenter)Â
Preferably experienced in heat exchangers, Ozone convertors and fluid management systemsÂ
Excellent communication and reporting skills at all levelsÂ
