Job Description

In this position you will be responsible for all aspects of the electronics design and development activities required for the CAS UK VS programs. Your responsibilities will range from managing and growing the electronics engineering group, including hiring team new members, and making recommendations on resource approaches to support current and future programs.

As part of this role, you will be key in helping develop the electronics systems architecture for programs, ensure that the electronics design and development tasks meet the needs of the programs and are performed to a high standard, in accordance with the electronics Standard Work. You will also be responsible for the technical training and development of the electronics staff, as well as their continuous appraisals.

The Electronics Engineering lead will need to work closely with the CAS VS programme and Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads to ensure tasks are adequately resourced and completed on schedule. Resource plans shall be maintained and updated regularly in support of CAS VS senior leadership reviews.

You will assist with new business opportunities and develop key customer relationships. You will also contribute to the development of the CAS VS electronics engineering strategy, including a technology roadmap and new business opportunities in conjunction with Business Development.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensure there is a clear resource plan in place that covers all current and planned programmes. Ensure key milestones are identified and met. Work with IPTLs to identify problems early and assist in resolution.

  • Technical oversight of electronics design and development tasks

  • Develop design solutions to support program needs

  • Provision of training and monitoring to ensure adherence to Standard Work

  • Identification of strategic needs and opportunities for the CAS VS

  • Identify new technologies and drive technology development programs

  • Assist in the creation of customer proposals and presentations for new business opportunities

  • Assist to resolve production test failures and introduce corrective actions

  • Assist to address electronic component obsolescence

  • Technical development and appraisal of staff

  • Work in collaboration with other Value Streams to identify synergies, best practices and opportunities.

Personal Characteristics:

  • Qualified to Degree level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Chartered Engineering status

  • Experience within an Aerospace environment or engineering experience within transport, nuclear, military, automotive or other safety related industries

  • Structured and organised; good planning, reporting and communication skills

  • Knowledge of both Analogue and Firmware design using VHDL

  • System/Circuit simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK/SPICE/SABER

  • Knowledge of electromechanical drives using brushless motors

  • Meet criteria required for military security clearance
