Environmental Consultancy 

The Impact Assessment team sits within Environmental Consultancy, a group comprising over 70 technical experts working across the property life cycle, led by Managing Director Kaela Fenn-Smith. This multi-disciplinary team is committed to leading the way to net zero, supporting sustainable investments within real estate, helping clients create value to local communities and improving building occupants’ wellbeing. Job Title: EIA Director

Location: London (this role is open to part-time [4 days per week] and flexible working)

Role Purpose

We are seeking a director to join the leadership team with clear strengths in business development. You will take day-to-day responsibility for the management of the team, reporting directly to the Head of Impact Assessment.

The Impact Assessment team sits within the Environmental Consultancy group, which forms one of the key Lines of Business within CBRE Limited and has been identified as a strategic growth priority for 2021/2022. The core service offering within Impact Assessment is EIA consultancy; although, we also offer a range of other services, including EIA reviews on behalf of local planning authorities, environmental due diligence, Socio-Economic Impact Assessment, Health Impact Assessment, Social Value Assessment and Greenhouse Gas Impact Assessment.

The team’s success has been built on helping our clients deliver sustainable, viable and implementable schemes on complex sites. We have a varied and technically challenging range of projects from football stadia through to major residential-led, mixed use schemes for which we seek to provide clear, concise and commercially-minded advice. Foremost, is a need to deliver proportionate EIA that allows schemes to be robustly assessed and delivered in a timely fashion. We have been registrants on IEMA’s EIA Quality Mark Scheme since 2015.

The Impact Assessment team are seeking to expand both to support our internal planning colleagues and meet external opportunities; this is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team with ambitions for continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing both strategic and project specific advice on EIA approach to internal teams and clients

• Business planning for the team including recruitment and development of existing team members

• Leading the team’s business development strategy, with a particular focus on developing trusted advisor relationships

• Assisting with the management of forecasting, invoicing, disbursements and bad debts 

• Day-to-day EIA project management and coordination

• Lead author and editor of environmental statements

Person Specification/Requirements

• Educated to at least degree level in environmental science or a related subject

• Ideally 10+ years EIA consultancy experience

• Demonstrable track record in delivering proportionate EIA on complex sites across the UK

• Demonstrable track record of managing a team – including performance reviews etc.

• Demonstrable track record of developing client relationships

• Ideally, full membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. MIEMA) and chartered environmentalist status

• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to delivering excellence on projects 

• Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills

• Strong commercial awareness

• Detailed knowledge of the EIA process and UK EIA Regulations, as well as the planning system
