Working alongside a team of like-minded analysts we are looking for not just any Duty Analyst.... an M&S Duty Analyst.

Implementing analytical techniques in a demanding and fast paced commercial environment this role will include data analysis, modelling, technical development, project work, business interaction and understanding the workings of a complex retail business. You will be required to support the business by extracting useful information from large datasets for performance tracking, identifying trends and communicating results to the business.

The Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Development of innovative data driven solutions to business questions
  • Work closely with stakeholders to fully understand requirements and provide collaborative solutions and analytical understanding
  • Interrogating the Big Data platform to generate insight from data
  • Work with Technology and the Big Data team platforms – prioritising requirements, validating data etc
  • Ownership and development of large programs written in SQL
  • Producing high quality visualisations and presentations that clearly communicate complicated ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Deliver analytics priorities by collaborating with key stakeholders across Supply Chain (e
  • Proactively finding opportunities where analytics can benefit the business
  • Develop links to other analytics functions within the business and externally

You will need

  • Exceptional problem solving, analytical and numerical skills
  • Advanced MS Excel
  • Experience developing analytical models in SQL.
  • Experience of porting code between multiple SQL implementations is desirable (including Oracle, SQLServer, Hive, SAS and Impala)
  • Data visualisation – Ability to create clear, understandable visualisations. Experience of one or more visualisation tool (Spotfire/Tableau/Qlickview) would be helpful
  • Experience using at least one of SAS, R, Python or Apache Spark
  • An understanding of statistical analysis techniques is required, and an academic background in statistics would be advantageous
  • Ability to interact with the business to understand their needs and how the available data can fulfil those needs.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with all levels of the business and influencing stakeholders where necessary
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment and proven experience in leading priorities
  • Knowledge of Food/Supply Chain systems and processes would be beneficial
  • Enthusiasm and desire to learn new tools and techniques
  • Analytical thinking and data driven approach
  • Strong experience in business engagement is essential
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience utilising data to answer business questions and drive business decisions.
