The Department for Innovation and Skills (DIS) is focused on growing the South Australian economy by supporting people and business to succeed. DIS supports economic growth by helping people get the skills they want and the economy needs, increasing South Australia’s productivity growth rate through research and innovation and by supporting entrepreneurs and business growth.

With small businesses accounting for ~98% of all businesses in South Australia, the Director, Small Business plays a vital role in developing, delivering and managing policies, programs and initiatives which support South Australian small business growth, resilience and productivity.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Innovation and Science Group and leading the Small Business Team, you will be highly strategic and impactful in engaging proactively with the small business community and key industry stakeholders to both understand and address the challenges and opportunities facing small business to make it easier to do business in South Australia.

We are seeking a highly strategic yet practical thinker who has a detailed understanding of the small business sector, and can provide expert representation, contributing high- level input to relevant South Australian Government and DIS projects, groups and committees.

You will build and maintain highly effective working relationships, networks and partnerships across Local, State and Federal Government, along with the small business community, and provide high-level strategic advice to Department executives and the Minister to ensure the most effective resources and strategies are utilised to drive small business growth in South Australia.
