Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. policy, legal, compliance) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with advisory and regulatory practices, policies, issues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Direct compliance, business development, product management and/or risk management experience in one or more countries outside US, including compliance with current and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Google products and competitive positioning, familiarity with broader technology industry challenges and government oversight concerns.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal administrative support.
  • Well-organized, with ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Excellent analytical, advisory, negotiation, and drafting skills, and effective leadership, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of matters from the complex to the routine.

About the job

As the Director, Regional Chief Compliance Officer, you will be a member of the Central Compliance leadership team. You will lead the team implementing the enterprise compliance framework in the region, and play a strategic role in ensuring compliance of business practices with laws and regulations in conjunction with other Global Affairs counterparts.

In this role, you'll assist the identification and assessment of key risks and the efficacy of mitigation strategies, and work closely with cross-functional colleagues at the enterprise level to drive the continued development, implementation and monitoring of compliance with local policies and procedures. The role will also focus on harmonizing local and regional efforts across government jurisdictions and identifying opportunities to leverage current approaches and best practices, working closely with other Regional Chief Compliance Officers and the Enterprise Chief Compliance Officers.

You will play a role in shaping the regional policy and regulatory framework, and will be responsible for implementing the global enterprise compliance framework in the region, validating adherence to existing regulations specific to the region or country (within the region) and monitoring changes in the business environment as related to regulations. You will be the point person on local regulatory issues and serve as the senior business advisor to product area leads. You will build relationships with local regulators on a proactive basis, and directly manage in-region resources.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with statutory and regulatory authorities in-region in responding to inquiries relating to Google’s products and operations in conjunction with other Global Affairs counterparts.
  • Engage with the policy makers and regulators in development of regulatory/compliance framework relevant to the technology sector.
  • Advise senior management and cross-functional teams with regard to interpretation of regulations and potential legal risks in Region; ensure compliance with applicable laws across Google’s operations.
  • Work collaboratively with various internal teams on matters concerning compliance with local laws and regulations; guide internal teams in development of policies and implementation of processes to support on-going compliance.
  • Improve a robust internal framework for compliance with laws and internal policies.
