Strategy, Influence & Change

• Develop and execute the diversity and inclusion vision, strategic direction, plans and metrics to support organisational effectiveness
• Head the development of frameworks, tools and policies that enable the BBC to achieve its diversity targets
• Partner with Divisional Directors and HR Directors to deliver the D&I programme and report regularly on progress to BBC Executive Committee and Board
• Work closely and collaboratively with Directors of Content, Studios, News and Nations and their teams to drive best practices
• Develop strategies which support both on-air and production talent representation and portrayal across the BBC and its’ partners to ensure the ambitions of the BBC are met
• Drive the BBC commissioning guidelines agenda, monitor their effectiveness, ensure outcomes are delivered and refine as appropriate
• Commission and design diversity & inclusion training programmes and act as advisor to Academy on diversity for other training programmes
• Partner with HR Analytics team to develop, maintain, and audit diversity metrics, corresponding dashboards, and recurring reports to measure success, glean insights and input into published reports

Subject Matter Expertise

• Provide thought leadership by developing innovative initiatives and recommendations that drive business strategy and demonstrate the impact of diversity and inclusion
• Provide insight to the business around inclusion trends, areas of opportunity, future-focused thinking and competitive programmes and practices
• Ensure all policies and processes are compliant with legislation and public commitments
• Remain abreast of current developments including legislation, best practice, insight and innovative approaches in the area of diversity and equality
• Represent the BBC D&I agenda appropriate across a range of stakeholders including regulators and the press office

Functional & Operational Leadership

• Provide inspirational guidance to a team of high performing specialists who support enterprise-wide D&I programmes and interventions and business area specific programmes
• Develop/manage relationships with recognised trade unions, employee representation groups, other external partners/professional organisations and networks.
• Manage the budget and prudently control resources within that budget so that financial targets are met.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a deep understanding and experience of diversity & inclusion within a creative and / or corporate environment and fully appreciate the importance of diversity & inclusion, to achieve creative and business success.

With substantial experience operating as a D&I role model and influencer for your team and colleagues in a complex organisation, you have developed and implemented strategies, frameworks, tools and policies that have resulted in highly visible, company-wide diversity & inclusion delivery.

As a diversity and inclusion expert, including current trends and future insights, you have the credibility to manage numerous, diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous priorities. In this high profile position, your ability to operate in a politically sensitive environment, open to public scrutiny, will be essential.

Being an inspiring leader, you can engage your team and the wider organisation at all levels of seniority, with excellent communication skills to support relationship building both inside and outside the BBC, creating successful partnerships at a variety of levels. As an accomplished public speaker, you will have excellent communication and collaboration skills and a strong influencer who can communicate your strategic vision with energy and enthusiasm.

Ideally you will have a strong understanding of the media sector and BBC competitors and extensive knowledge of industry trends and environment.
