About this role
The role must keep fully abreast of all new technology and standards developments in the mobile network ecosystem and assess their likely influence and impact on the BT network prior to market launch. This will involve representation in 3GPP standards body, specifically RAN2 working group, contribute in the 3GPP specification by ensuring BT’s requirements are presented and proposed in standards. Understanding and interpreting technical specifications relating to BT’s strategy on new features, capabilities, functionality and services. Align device standards and ecosystem development on new features with network and ensure the wider BT business is made aware of the impacts of standards developments that may influence its strategic roadmap, market position and on its operation and services.
The role must keep fully informed of all standards developments in LTE, 5G, Public Safety, Radio Access Network, Services and System Aspects working group.
The role will have a significant impact on 5G, Private networks and Public Safety Services development.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Represent BT in 3GPP RAN standards group (RAN2 specifically).
Contribute towards proposing BT’s requirements in 3GPP standards and GSMA specifications.
Prepare, own and present standardisation roadmap update.
Provide in depth technical insight on the implications of standards on new Network technologies and services.
Engage with device OEMs and chipset vendor’s standards representatives and work towards achieving common goal to benefit BT and the device ecosystem.
Contribute towards managing device roadmap and network roadmap alignment, device requirements, new technology and service launches.
Delegate 3GPP RAN standardisation WG2 and contribute on technical submissions.
Understand, interpret and follow standards development in RAN WG2 and other WGs.
Analyse and provide in depth technical analysis on the developments in standards, with clear insight on the likely impact on BT strategy and roadmap.
Prepare internal 3GPP standards roadmap view on each of the technology developments and present to internal BT teams.
Prepare standards meeting report and share information and key outcomes and progress.
Development of feature & capabilities roadmaps based on the specification’s developments.
Liaise with colleagues across other standards WGs, network architecture and services communities to provide guidance on the technical POCs and trial.
Delivery – responsible for creating and maintaining standards roadmap and specifications development.
Take accountability for the communication of technology developments and trends in other markets.
Work with device OEMs and chipset vendors to align standards development to influence over device ecosystem development.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Working knowledge within mobile communications industry with through knowledge of 5G NR, ENDC, LTE, IMS, WCDMA, HSPA, GSM systems, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.
Must have experience working with standards bodies, such as 3GPP, GSMA.
Must have experience in technical submissions and representation into standards bodies, preferably with 3GPP.
Extensive working knowledge on Radio Access Network, Radio Interface Architecture, layer 2, layer 3, RRC, MAC, RLC, PDCP, SDAP protocols.
Experience working with mobile device OEMs and Chipset Vendors.
Experience in the integration and enablement of new radio technologies, capabilities and features within 5G NR, ENDC, LTE, Internet of Things (IoT) and Wi-Fi. Any development experience would be even better.
Required skills to collaborate and work independently with internal and external stakeholders.
