Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.
About the team
ESI keeps Sydney moving by providing design and engineering services to Sydney Trains and the TfNSW cluster. ESI are also the technical leaders responsible for ensuring system safety and integrity. The team works collaboratively with stakeholders to provide technical expertise and assurance, acting as Sydney Trains’ interface with the Asset Standards Authority and hold Sydney Trains’ Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) accreditation.
The opportunity
Right now, we have an opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer Modelling to join us in our ESI Reporting to the Technical Specialist Modelling you will be responsible for
Undertaking power systems modelling and analysis for the Sydney Trains DC and AC network; and
Provide engineering advice and services to Sydney Trains and NSW Trains and external clients to assist them in the delivery of quality, timely and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
What you will be involved in
Developing and producing modelling infrastructure design solutions and associated documentation, as per accredited Sydney Trains and NSW Trains competency level.
Provide engineering advice and services to Sydney Trains and NSW Trains and external clients to assist them in the delivery of quality, timely and cost effective infrasturce solutions.
Identifying, developing and communicating engineering innovations relating to the modelling electrical technology, to facilitate the provision of safe and commercially smart solutions to Sydney Trains and NSW Trains engineering problems.
Participate in investigations as required and prepare draft technical investigation reports and technical specifications.
Assist in tender preparation for RFT submissions, through the provision of expert technical advice throughout the process.
About you
You will have a Degree in Electrical Engineering giving entitlement to the Membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia and have at least two years’ experience in the power system modelling of analysis within a comparable public or private sector organisation and specifically having DC experience.
You will also have broad and practical knowledge and experience in design, construction and maintenance practices of HV and LV distribution power systems as well as a grounded understanding of Electrical Design, Risk Assessment and Asset Management and Reliability and engineering calculations associated with electrical design such as fault level, load flow, harmonic analysis, fault loop impedance, volts drop, cables and equipment sizing, rating and specification along with proven experience and understanding of power system analysis tools.
You will have sound knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, standards, rules, regulations, policy, procedures and guidelines relating to substations and distribution infrastructure and be able to apply these in out of the box problem solving solutions.
You must demonstrate good communication skills and be able to discuss complex technical terms with stakeholders and team members in a clear and understandable manner.

Salary and benefits
The salary for this position is RC5 ($103,000 – $119,500) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
