Responsibilities

The Datacenter Design Architect will be responsible for contributing to the development of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs which includes defining new technology and advanced concepts from pre-programming through design development, construction and turnover to Operations.  

 The ideal candidate will have experience in a team environment, deep technical knowledge, and experience in building and infrastructure design. In addition, this position requires an individual who can demonstrate the ability to ensure highly resilient and scalable service designs through partnership with other members of the service team. 

The main duties will include upgrades and retrofits, review and quality assurance of our Lease projects, together with greenfield and brownfield datacentre design development. The design architect will provide thought leadership and direction during the architectural design to align with defined project scope, schedule and budget. The architect will engage with key MS stakeholders, authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacentre architecture. The candidate will provide technical direction to vendors which includes professional architects. This position will support multiple concurrent projects, and will have a major component on telecoms upgrade projects across lease and Microsoft - owned sites for the EMEA region and be part of the core team that’s launching the MS cloud infrastructure worldwide. Some domestic and international travel is required.  

The successful candidate will  

• Have the ability to effectively guide multiple teams of architects, engineers and designers and contribute to the delivery of projects aligned with the defined scopes, schedules and budgets.  
• Provide technical direction for the architectural components of the projects including facilitating systems coordination and organization throughout the sites and datacentres.  
• Have excellent project management and communication skills, be highly organized and exhibit a good level of project leadership;  

• Possess a good level of expertise in commercial and industrial architecture with a primary focus on datacentre design; have knowledge of civil and structural design 
• Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and must be a person of integrity with a methodical and detail-oriented work ethic.
