Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  CO&I is responsible for delivering Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

 

Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

 

The Datacenter Engineering Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects.  This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap.

 

The Datacenter Program Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs including the development of new technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and the turnover to Operations.  This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects.  The Design Manager will engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.

Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate a team of architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule and budget. 
  • Have excellent communication, organization and leadership skills.
  • Possess a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design. 
  • Must be able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and do so with an even temperament.
  • Must be a person of integrity, be methodical, detailed-oriented with a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business or related field. 
  • Technical understanding of mission critical environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to lead teams of architects and engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments.  
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering, equipment and/or construction for mission critical or high-tech industry. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as project or team manager. 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
