Job Description

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

About this role

Looking to apply your academic knowledge in a business context?

You’ll be joining a specialist security team that is a trusted partner to governments worldwide. Our customers depend on us to not only understand their needs and the technology required to connect them, but also to keep our networks safe, secure and resilient. Data Science has a central role to play within this, by helping us understand what is happening within our network, and to heading-off problems that might compromise our customers’ experience.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Our Data Science career path aims to develop the blend of skills required to apply your academic knowledge in a business context, while broadening your experience in advanced Data Analytics techniques that can help us counter Cyber Security threats to our network or help us detect and localize network problems. This might involve applying time-series analysis, graph algorithms, statistical inference or a range of Machine Learning techniques, working in languages such as Python, Scala and C++, to help us solve challenging problems that are at the heart of our growth

You'll have the following skills & experience

A 2.2 degree or higher in a STEM subject - a solid grounding in mathematics, statistics and/or computational algorithms OR, if your interest is outside a traditional STEM subject – a passion for Data Science and the foundational knowledge necessary to grow within our multi-disciplinary teams.

An interest in applying your knowledge in a fast-moving business environment and be keen to learn allied skills in software development, Big Data technologies, Cyber Security and large-scale digital networks.

Because of the nature of the work we do for some of our customers, our roles will require security clearance. Don’t worry, a member of the Early Careers Team will talk you through this.

This is one of our exciting new entry level graduate jobs, meaning you will learn how to do a specific role, rather than a rotation around the business. This role is available in the Global part of our business.

Location

Cheltenham, Ipswich and London

Starting Salary

£35,000
