Job Description
Do you want to be part of making a big step change in the data space in a fast-paced retail environment, driving us towards being a data-led organisation?
The Data Insight & Analytics Team within Asda Technology is going through a major expansion, with plans to increase in size by over 25% over the coming months.
If you have a passion for data management and ensuring data is treated as an asset, appropriately managed and governed to deliver true business value and you have experience in data management and governance, we would love to hear from you.
The Role
As our Data Quality Manager, you will be helping implement a new strategic data quality management practice supporting the data governance function; ensuring appropriate data quality management is in place, including issue identification, logging, route cause analysis and processes for resolution.
In your role, you must understand the use of ASDA's critical data quality elements in a business context, both primary and secondary to understand what fit-for-purpose data means and what are the benefits to the organisation.
- You will be pro-actively engaging with data owners and data stewards around ASDA about the benefits of treating data as an asset and how robust data quality practices can optimise business effectiveness, reduce risk and improve growth opportunities.
- You will also be defining, measuring, tracking, and communicating the benefits of great data quality framework and best practices across the business.
- You will engage and work with business data governance forums and decision bodies to support data owners and stewards to define, agree, and communicate business data standards and procedures and can use detailed re-world business examples to justify changing poor data management practices.
- You will need to engage technical teams working at the application level (solution design) and with data analytics squads working on analytical use cases driving insight and value through data; together you will affect the changes necessary at procedural levels to resolve data quality issues on key metrics and performance indicators.
- You must provide guidance to the technical teams on methods for improving and embedding data quality management at the application level through the entire data lifecycle to develop strategies for data quality improvement and the accuracy of data.
- You will have a good understanding of data taxonomies and their application in the classification and tagging of data to support security and data protection requirements and restrictions; working with the business to develop strategies for improvements in quality of critical data assets.
- Data quality can only be fully judged with reference to other data that we use to describe our data assets; it is, therefore, critical that you also apply your expertise in data management to our metadata – data about data – to guarantee that we understand the complete data lifecycle against which we can measure if data is fit-for-purpose, accurate, complete/consistent, and timely.
About you:
- You are a strong communicator and facilitator and able to work with and influence at the functional level of the organisation
- You will be proactive and keen to help the business better manage and govern its data.
- You have a solid background in data quality management and governance and a track record of delivering measurable benefits and a working knowledge of frameworks
- You will have a working knowledge of SQL, R/ Python, Data Quality and ETL tools and technologies; experience in Data Lakes and Cloud data environments, specifically MS Azure will be beneficial
- You will have experience in Master Data & Data Quality Management concepts and understand the benefits a good Data Governance approach can bring to an organisation.
- You may have previous practical work experience with SAP and Master Data Management, retail industry experience will be a plus.
If flexible working is important to you, then look no further! At Asda, we are proud of our culture and our commitment to flexible working. This role is based at Asda House, Leeds with the flexibility to work from home 2-3 days per week
You will also get an excellent benefits package including; -
