About this role
We have an exciting Field Service opportunity to support the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) data contract.
We use our engineering expertise to design and build services of today and tomorrow for our customers around the clock and wherever they are – and we need you to help us to do this. This role supports the delivery and maintenance of critical national infrastructure to ensure our customers get the best possible service to meet their demands and expectations.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Working at MOD bases
Working independently, solving data faults or installing/upgrading networks and devices
Taking work from the DFTS works control, they will issue tasks manually with minimal systems used as per security requirements
Working to standards of work as laid down by MOD (JSP 604) and the DFTS project team.
Initial on-the-job buddying with dedicated DFTS engineers already working on the contract
You'll gain experience of the main locations of MOD sites and the systems we work with. This will involve travel within the wider area up to 2-3-hours and overnight stays where required
Building professional working relationships with the MOD site contacts and other team members
Completing any in-house training to allow you to work on secure systems as detailed by the DFTS BT Security manager or customers.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Skilled on Data switches and routers - mainly Juniper although Cisco knowledge of Data switches would be advantageous
General telecommunication knowledge with a cabling background
Ability to build good working relationships
Willingness to travel widely across the UK, sometimes up to 3-hours travel to attend a task
Willing work OOH to deliver exceptional customer service
Flexibility to deliver exceptional customer service
Desire to learn new ways of working
Willing and able to gain a minimum Security Check (SC) clearance
Going forward there may be a requirement to join a callout rota and gain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
