Data Engineer

The TEC - Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua is a small Crown agency with a big job to do - ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to ensure lifelong success to build a great country. We lead the Government's relationship with the tertiary education sector in New Zealand and provide career services from education to employment.

We are looking for a great Data Engineer to join our team. This role is focused on developing excellent technical solutions for our cloud-based analytics projects. The role involves working with the Data Architect and Data Analysts to model implementation options and quickly build technical solutions which meet business requirements. 

What will you be doing?

• Development of ELT architecture, and implementation using cloud technologies
• Building data systems and pipelines
• Analyse and understand business requirements
• Identify implementation options
• Develop a proof of concept to validate performance, ease of use etc.
• Provide technical assistance in the identification, evaluation, and development of software systems
• Develop and review coding documentations and other technical specifications
• Assist various unit and integration testing

What can you bring?

Proven solid experience and skills in the following:

• Data related Azure technology such as Azure PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB
• Azure Data Factory
• Azure DevOps (CI/CD Pipelines)
• Solid experience in version control software
• Solid experience in writing T-SQL scripts
• Solid experience in MS SQL Server
• Highly developed diagnosis skills
• Motivated to resolve complex problems
• Ability to understand documented business requirements
• Capable of primarily self-directed work
• User-centric development approach
