We use 30 billion transaction lines combined with information about customers and their online activity, products, promotions to build this insight and together with business stakeholders we can drive the evolution of the models that are built on this data to provide the most useful and valuable understanding of customer behaviour.
In order to accomplish that mission we are looking for smart developers looking to learn new things, happy to be involved in a challenging project and a nice environment to collaborate and develop their career. We are looking to hire a Data Engineer at our Holborn HQ where you will be supported by your Sainsbury’s Tech colleagues and community.
You will be working in one of our autonomous Scrum teams structuring, analysing and transforming Big Data for a Customer Analytics Commercial application delivering value to the business by monetising Sainsbury's transactional data. You will be part of wider teams building applications that surface and explore our Nectar data across all Sainsbury’s Channels.
Significant experience querying volume data – we have billions of rows (currently SQL / Snowflake)
Experience designing and building operational databases in cloud environment (currently Postgres)
Knowledge of Spark and ability to write data pipelines in one of Python / Java / Scala
Experience of retail / customer analytics or similar field
Enthusiastic about building and automating a maintainable product and supporting it
Desire to work across the product and see the impact of the data from start to finish
Ability to communicate with product owners and architects within the team and the wider business
Useful additional skills
Experience of building APIs to interact with databases / user interfaces
Experience of Infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
