We have an exciting opportunity for a Customer Investment Manager to join our investment function within Aviva Life.
The role holder will be helping to review the investment strategy for our With Profits assets and support the wider Customer Investment Team.
The Customer Investment team is responsible for the management and oversight of our Customer assets (i.e. Unit Linked and With Profits funds). The role of the team is twofold: ensure that our Customers funds’ investment strategy remains appropriate over time with the funds objectives and that they perform in the way our customers expect them to be.
The team provides strategic asset allocation recommendation, assesses the previous strategies compared to the objectives of the funds, reviews and assesses new investment opportunities and implements any recommendation with our internal or external asset managers. The team also reviews and challenges regularly the performance of our asset managers. In providing a strong oversight, we also organise deep dive reviews with appointed asset managers.
The team needs to build a strong relationship with our internal and external counterparts in order to provide an efficient oversight framework to protect our Customers’ investments. This role will primarily support the review of the investment strategy of the With Profits Funds.
Responsibilities will include
Supporting the Head of Customer Investments on investment strategy recommendations, monitoring investment performance, providing oversight, governance and risk management of the With Profits Funds
To support designing and implementing investment strategies for WP funds taking into account risk, customer and regulatory constraints
Recommending changes in investment strategy to better meet the objectives of the Fund in terms of asset allocation (including additional asset classes where appropriate), benchmark, risk budget, process, style, ESG considerations and manager selection having regard to customer expectations and performance objectives
Providing oversight on the governance of all our managers (internal and external)
Ensuring there is a suitable review process for all relevant investment performance indicators
Monitoring the investment performance of designated funds using their investment skills and where appropriate their actuarial skills
Developing a detailed knowledge and understanding of specialised investment areas and monitoring / recommending improvements for e.g., securities finance, liquidity funds, Investment Management Agreements
Building productive relationships with Aviva Investors, other fund managers and key stakeholders in UK Life, improving efficiency of services, and transparent identification, escalation and resolution of issues
Developing and producing management information to support Executive committee, Investment Committee and the Life Boards
To support the continuous improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of investment governance and oversight activity, and to contribute to the wider oversight function, having regard to the Aviva Group relevant Business Standards and other regulatory requirements for insurance companies and investment managers
Skills & Experience required
Deep understanding of investment issues and performance drivers relevant to a Life insurance company gained either from an insurance company, investment consultant or fund manager
Highly numerate and analytical with a developed capability to interpret data, challenge proposals and ability to find solutions to complex problems
Strong communicator who is able to build productive relationships and influence for positive outcomes in challenging situations
In depth knowledge of the company products, organisation and structures.
Broad asset exposure in both liquid and illiquid markets
A detailed knowledge of statutory, legal and regulatory frameworks and corporate governance
Understand the needs of our end customers and shareholder
Investment management industry especially in an insurance context
Relationship Management
Proven ability in setting and monitoring complex investment mandates
Qualifications/FSA:
Qualified to degree level with strong academic record
Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CFA/IMC) with post-qualification experience
Alternative asset or ESG qualifications would be beneficial

Salary between £40,000 – £75,000 depending on location, skills, experience and qualifications
