If so, Microsoft Corporation has an immediate opening for a dynamic, highly motivated corporate counsel to join the team supporting the Microsoft Advertising organization within the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Experiences + Devices team.
Microsoft Advertising is responsible for selling search advertising through the Microsoft Bing platform and identifying and realizing opportunities to drive display and native advertising and additional post-sale monetization across Microsoft's consumer products. This position is located in Bellevue, Washington, or remote within the U.S., with a Bellevue location preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to the legal team across Microsoft Advertising’s global sales, distribution, operations, customer support, marketing, privacy/regulatory and PromoteIQ business channels.
- Serve as a key business partner and valued legal advisor to senior level clients and colleagues by providing actionable advice on a wide range of high-impact, complex and developing legal and business issues related to privacy, including GDPR and CCPA, and the sale, distribution, licensing, or marketing of search, display and native advertising services or content.
- Collaborate with ads engineering legal teams to ensure alignment across the sales and operations channels.
- Draft and negotiate transactional documents, including complex agreements involving sales, product development, incentives, and the marketing of search, display and native advertising services or content.
- Develop and implement compliant processes, templates, and best practices to drive efficiencies across business and CELA teams.
- Identify and anticipate legal and other risks (e.g., privacy, regulatory, reputational, litigation, etc.) in client's business, technology, and/or public policy, and develop creative solutions and alternatives to mitigate future risk.
- Collaborate with CELA, across internal groups, senior management, and senior-level business leaders, to help analyze and simplify complex/multi-dimensional legal and regulatory issues and implement resulting business and legal strategies.
- Lead cross-group meetings and projects across internal groups.
Qualifications
- A J.D. or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school, an active license to practice law, and at least 5 years as a practicing commercial/business attorney or equivalent experience.
- AdTech experience involving search, display and/or native advertising is strongly preferred.
- Experience drafting and negotiating a broad variety of complex transactional agreements.
- Experience providing guidance on privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA, strongly preferred.
- Outstanding analytical, organizational, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as a strong record of effective cross-group collaboration in a diverse and matrixed environment.
- Sound and practical business judgment, an ability to think strategically and a desire to establish a “trusted advisor†relationship with senior level clients.
- Confident self-starter who is effective at driving strategic cross-group projects, collaborating well with colleagues and a great team player.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations in a fast-paced environment and across geographies and inter-departmental teams.
