Role Responsibility

  • To deliver creative communications campaigns; encompassing social media, digital media, press and publicity to reach audiences. 
  • To develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders; offering expert advice on all external communications matters.
  • To deal with reputational issues in a calm, timely and effective manner.
  • To proactively seek opportunities to communicate positive messages about the BBC; its content and its services.
  • To lead a team of communications professionals, offering clear management, supporting staff development and ensuring objectives are met. 

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a team leader who has experience in a busy press office in a high-profile organisation. You will be a skilled copy editor with excellent news sense and first-class communications skills both written and verbal. You’ll have a proven track record of handling complex reputational issues, working with numerous stakeholders, and navigating competing priorities.

You’ll have a passion for our local and regional services, which includes 39 local radio stations and the most popular news programme in the UK; the BBC One 6:30pm regional bulletins. You will also need a passion for BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra.

You’ll need to be experienced in successfully motivating and developing a team to meet clear objectives while operating under pressure in a diverse organisation, knowing how to effectively provide counsel to staff and stakeholders on programming, new initiatives, PR strategy and issues.
