Why this job matters
In this job, you’ll be responsible for the Financial & Operational Excellence demand management and its supporting capability for all segments and associated delivery Tribes in Enterprise CDO. Owning the Enterprise Digital build and its in-year management. You will establish and maintain a fit for purpose financial tracking capability to support the CFU/Digital demand management process. The role holder will work across aggregated and specific delivery portfolio’s and support their planning and execution by working closely with CIO and CDO tribes, in particular will need to collaborate closely with the Enterprise Digital Capacity and Demand function including resourcing and vendor managers as well as the wider partner teams such as Procurement, Central Finance and HR. This role will provide validation that all new hires are within the overall agreed budget and will consolidate accurate monthly actuals and forecasting including both internal and external CAPEX and OPEX spend.
You will be responsible for accurate and timely financial submissions to support the FBP and Delivery Director in producing relevant inputs to support quarterly and annual business review planning in accordance with criteria and timelines as set by central Corporate Units.
You'll have the following responsibilities
- Holds accountability for ensuring all funding requests from Enterprise Digital Leadership team are within the approved Enterprise Digital budget envelope.
- Develop effective governance and financial operational management to provide key financial insights to support Mid-Term Plan (MTP) and quarterly Bookend reviews with Digital Leadership Team.
- Drive the visibility of future tribe funding availability as key input into the demand planning process
- Developing key hypotheses for interventions for addressing issues and continuous improvement whilst ensuring compliance with BT policies and guidelines. In conjunction with formulating a finance operating model closely coupled to support agile incremental delivery cycles.
- Responsible for creating, maintaining and reconciling all Purchase orders and invoices received against approved Portfolio Demand
- Collaborate with the Vendor Partner manager to ensure sourcing of new hires from 3rd parties to drive maximum cost optimisation.
- Accountable for Operational Excellence Business Partner deliverables for Enterprise Digital as well as being recognised as part of, contributing to and partnering with Leadership Teams across all facets of operational demand where required
- Own cross segment Portfolio performance reporting and its aggregation to scorecard level including independent PIR accountability to establish rootcause and deployment of prevention of reoccurrence permanent fixes
You'll have the following skills & experience
The skills you need
- Data first mindset, defining and subsequently owning sustainable ecosystem; driving timely production of key demand financial artefacts to baseline one truth in-year and multi-year demand profiles across multiple portfolios/segments
- Ability to challenge and think strategically or tactically with the ability to blend technical, operational and commercial considerations to develop grounded financial recommendations across operational and demand lenses
- Excellent communicator and stakeholder manager capable of engaging and influencing senior IT operational and Digital leadership teams and their wider interfaces (CFU’s, procurement, suppliers etc) to drive clear decision making and resolve conflict across competing priorities
- Excellent IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, data modelling and experience of business/continuous improvement methodology and practices
- Excellent relationship management capability and comfortable operating at senior levels (Director and MD). Leading significant governance forums and ownership for specific high profile interventions such as MTP (Mid-term Planning), QBR, annual demand and financial planning COO, all digital units CFU, Finance and HR teams `
- Data Management - You integrate complex data from multiple sources. You assess the quality of data and guide others to identify, follow up on and resolve issues. You take accountability for data being stored, protected and accessible for users.
- Governance and compliance - You evaluate and quantify the impact of standard legal and regulatory risks. You use your knowledge of internal and external regulatory standards, legal requirements and principles.
- Improvement focus – You bring a continuous improvement mindset, anticipating and analysing obstacles in work processes. You drive develoing solutions and implement improvements to bring operational efficiencies.
- Be Agile: A solid understanding and thought leader of lean budgeting to support Agile delivery practices with awareness of major frameworks (i.e. SAFe, LeSS, Kanban); ability to influence wider finance community to adopt similar approach to budgeting.
- Collaborator: Adept at collaborating with other Senior Leaders to achieve successful outcomes.
Experience you would be expected to have
Mandatory
- Experienced professional able to produce high quality, and aggregated management information and insight for senior management consumption informing their decision making
- Significant experience within an operational and commercial environment capable of balancing both domains, their priorities and conflict resolution across challenging and senior stakeholders
- Experienced in the production of deep and rich insight based on detailed data and ‘what if’ scenario analysis to inform senior stakeholder discussions and decision making
- Confidently intervenes in strategic processes or functions that are sub optimal/failing and development of prevention of reoccurrence activities to provide permanent resolution
- Stakeholder engagement and management, communication at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience of providing financial operational support for large scale technology delivery programs
Desirable
- Deep understanding of the Digital financial build & run lifecycle including interconnections with external vendors
- Experience of driving significant cross-unit change and execution of high impacting finance transformation programmes at strategic levels
- Continuous improvement qualifications such as Six Sigma, Lean etc
- Managed headcount and department costs in environment when costs are under pressure
