Primark Technology is about to embark on a transformation journey to support business strategy which includes modernising our operating model as well as technology architecture.

A key enabler for our technology transformation is the increased use of cloud services to deliver customer value through software. As business needs become ever more complex and fast-paced, we recognise the need to embrace the advantages that cloud brings - notably scale, security, and flexibility – as well as enabling new business opportunities.

We are looking for a Cloud CoE lead to develop and lead this new capability, working with our partners to deliver the cloud platforms and services required by our business-facing product teams. This will include leading a significant Cloud Transformation programme.

As Cloud CoE Lead, you will evangelise the use of public cloud services, be a passionate technologist, and represent Cloud within our future Enterprise Architecture framework

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead a Cloud Engineering function which develops and enables new platform functionality and self-service cloud services which empower product teams to deliver customer value at pace

Develop a Cloud Engineering capability which has the skills and culture needed to drive cloud-enabled tech transformation

Implement and manage governance structures that will ensure best practices across financial management, security operations, deployment methodologies and policy adherence

Define and govern quality standards, service transition rigour and compliance to security; ultimately improve operational performance measured through metrics such as Availability, Workload Utilisation %, SLA response rate, etc.

Own and manage Cloud Transformation programme

Act as a hands-on senior technical leader, capable of setting technical direction, resolving escalations and communicating complex issues to senior stakeholders succinctly

Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure the delivery of team priorities are completed to expectations

Support, develop, implement Primark’s Engineering talent strategy

Build strong senior relationships with our partners

Line-manage, coach, mentor and develop cloud engineers (which could include SI & other vendors)

Ensure the cloud engineering and platform roadmaps and backlogs reflect technology strategic direction

Foster self-management and accountability at the team level through servant leadership

Collaborate closely with senior management to create strategic objectives and organisational evolutions to better align business, product and technical opportunities

Skills & Experience:

8+ Previous Cloud and/or SRE leadership experience

An appropriate degree, equivalent qualification or experience

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and providing self-service access to cloud technologies

Strong experience in building fault-tolerant, scalable, and secure systems

Experience with all aspects of cloud service models and application delivery such as PaaS, Serverless and Containerisation infrastructure

Experience with budgeting, financial management and forecasting

People management, be able to take people along with you, empowering new ways of working and successfully executing on those opportunities

Experience with security operational frameworks

Infrastructure-as-Code capabilities and governance

Experience with observability capability and logging/monitoring

Experience with Terraform would be desirable

Experience building and leading teams of highly skilled cloud engineers that deliver fault-tolerant, scalable, and secure systems

Experience in enterprise grade software deployments and operations

Experience in supporting communities that are sustainable.
