Job Description

We're offering competitive remuneration that includes full pay while you're not working, and the opportunity to further your career while fishing around New Zealand, Antarctica and the Western Pacific.

See the world

Talley's is proudly New Zealand owned and operated. We run eight deep sea fishing vessels with primarily Kiwi crews bringing the best New Zealand seafood to the world. Right now, we're looking for qualified and experienced Marine Engineers to keep our fishing vessels operating.

About the role

You would be a vital part of the crew; responsible for managing the functionality and safety of the vessels working components. Ensuring that the performance of the vessel is running at an optimal level and keeping all the on-board systems in good condition.

Our vessels operate under an onboard PPM system, which is managed by the Chief Engineer. As part of the role, you will be responsible for monitoring and updating all maintenance records, liaising with the Marine Superintendent to co-ordinate worklists and critical spares orders. The Chief Engineer is also responsible for managing contractors during vessel turn arounds, and surveys, with support from the Marine Superintendent and shoreside management.

We're passionate about working in a team environment with our sea going engineers. You will be managing a small team on board, with comprehensive support from our shoreside Engineering team.

You would be at sea for 6 weeks at a time which means you will be working every day during the trip. You will be scheduled to one trip on, one trip off - and while you're at home on your trip off, you'll still be fully paid.

Conditions can be challenging so being fit and healthy is a must. While onboard you will have a comfortable cabin and most of our fleet have an onboard gym, WIFI and plenty of space to relax in your downtime.

Skills/Experience Needed

- MEC4 (or equivalent) Certificate

- Experience working on a fishing vessel, although other marine industry experience is also welcome

- Problem solving skills and a “can do” attitude

- Motivated and energetic team players who get on well with others, with proven work history.

- A pre-employment medical, including dental will be required.

- Proof of New Zealand citizenship, permanent residence, or currently be residing in New Zealand and have a visa enabling you to work for a minimum of two years
