The Role:
The Chief Flight Instructor/Deputy Head of Training is responsible for the supervision and standardisation of all Boeing and contracted EASA and UK CAA flight instructors (TRIs and SFIs) at the London Gatwick Campus and at Boeing’s EASA-approved satellite training centres in Miami and Singapore.
This person will support our Head of Training in ensuring the successful and compliant delivery of all EASA, EASA-Aligned and UK CAA pilot training programs within the London Gatwick Campus.
Responsibilities:
Supervision and standardisation of Boeing EASA & UK CAA instructors conducting flight training under Boeing’s EASA or UK CAA ATO.
Ensuring adequate numbers of suitably qualified flight instructors are available to meet the instructional demands of the ATOs
Ensuring efficient utilisation of flight instructors.
Liaison with the Training Coordination team to ensure the maintenance and accuracy of flight instructor and examiner qualification records.
Initial onboarding, training and qualification of Boeing and contract flight instructors.
Content and delivery of instructor recurrent training programmes.
Organisation and conduct of instructor Standards Checks, and the collation and interpretation of instructor competency data collected during instructor Standards Checks and other evaluations.
Close liaison with the Chief Theoretical Knowledge Instructor to ensure standardisation of ground-school training conducted by flight instructors.
In conjunction with Head of Training, liaison with Irish Aviation Authority and UK CAA on operational, training and checking matters.
Organization and delivery of training and checking as required by EASA & UKCAA regulations.
Liaison with customer AOC/OC operators in relation to training and checking undertaken by Flight Services under any training and checking contract.
Supporting the ATO Safety and Compliance Manager in the application of the ATO Safety Management System and Quality Management System.
Having detailed knowledge of the ATO Quality Management System and Safety Management System, including attendance at Safety Action Group, Safety Review Board and Management Evaluation Board meetings.
Liaison with Boeing Digital Content & Courseware Management regarding compliance and revisions of EASA and UK CAA-approved training courseware.
Ensuring effective communication with instructors and examiners, including the issue and maintenance of Instructor Notices.
The content and delivery of Instructor Refresher Seminars
Liaison with the ATO Chief Tutor to ensure the consistent conduct of regulatory checks, including Assessments of Competence, License Proficiency Checks, and License Skill Tests.
Liaison with the flight simulator Device Manager to ensure the suitability of FSTDs for training, including assessment of FSTD discrepancies for their effect on the training curriculum.
Maintenance of personal instructional and examiner qualifications, thereby retaining the ability to perform all of the duties required of an ATO flight instructor and examiner.
Assuming the duties and responsibilities of ATO Head of Training during his/her absence.
Work Authorisation:
This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Holds, or has held within the last 3 years, the appropriate EASA and/or UK CAA TRI, SFI, TRE or SFE authorisation.
Hold or have held an EASA or UK CAA Airline Transport Pilots Licence with multi-engine jet instrument rating including a multi-engine jet type rating.
Possesses experience with a scheduled/non-scheduled multi-engine jet transport carrier, corporate jet operator, or military equivalent, amounting to at least 2000 hours.
Minimum three years’ experience as a flight instructor, including experience as a flight simulator instructor.
Managerial experience within the airline sector, or in equivalent industry or military organisations.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Experience as an examiner (TRE or SFE) or military equivalent
Previous regulatory postholder experience, either at an ATO or AoC
Operational and/or instructional experience on B737, B777 or B787 aircraft
At least 1000 hours as Pilot In Command in commercial jet transport airline service
Previous or current SFE/TRE qualification
TRI or SFI tutor experience
