The Change and Release Specialist role will have responsibility for the oversight and day to day execution of the BDUK Change and Release Management processes, working with key internal and external stakeholders. They will ensure that all day to day operational activities are executed to provide new, existing and changed services with the correct level of service governance and change control before being deployed into Production.

The role will require some travel between Bristol and Milton Keynes, as well as occasional out-of-hours support where required to cover the management of deployment activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical understanding of Customer requirements
  • Be responsible for coordinating, planning and delivering change activities through to the Operational Change Advisory Board (OCAB) into live services and non-live environments
  • Capable of assessing Change Request priorities (Impact Assessment); especially when project delays are encountered due to unforeseen issues.
  • Scheduling action to ensure succession of projects and business change within the BDUK organisation and its embedded suppliers.
  • Raising change and release records to be managed in a coherent manner ensuring suppliers meet both process and BDUK requirements.
  • Creation of Release and Deployment Plans and management of deployment activity into both Production and Non-Production environments.
  • Arrange and conduct Post Implementation Reviews.
  • Raise and coordinate Planned Outages, keeping all stakeholders informed during progression in accordance with statement of requirements.
  • Meaningful MI data is produced and reviewed for trends, actions and opportunities.

Education and experience:

Required

  • Knowledge and experience of ITSM best practice
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary role, with an understanding of the core ITIL processes.
  • Experience and understanding of stakeholder structure
  • ITIL V3 Foundation

Desired

  • Knowledge and experience of ITSM toolsets preferable – MicroFocus Service Management Automation X.
  • ITIL V3 Intermediate – Service Transition
  • Project Management Methodology knowledge

Other:

  • Must be willing and eligible to undergo SC level clearance

Skills and Competencies

Key skills & competencies include;

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Visio and Excel.
  • Customer Focus: Develop and maintain strong relationships inside the organization, actively seeking information to understand the Business goals and be contractually aware of the statement of requirements. Experience and understanding of stakeholder structure and the variation in each Service in relation to current programmes of work.
  • Ability to communicate and form working relationships with key stakeholders at an enhanced level, 3rd party suppliers and Internal Support Teams.
  • Work with and support other key ITIL process owners and support teams delivering an integrated service.
  • Good communications (written & verbal). Using the most appropriate method to communicate information after analysing needs, listening effectively, demonstrating understanding and clarifying meanings
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure or through demanding challenges
  • Good analytical skills. An understanding of priorities and situations by collecting and analysing information, summarising findings to manage development progress in a positive and collaborative manner.
  • Is able to make use of and applies job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Is able to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Is able to work under general supervision, with no instructions needed for routine work. Receives general instructions for special assignments. Work is reviewed for sound technical judgment and overall adequacy.
  • Contributes to the completion of specific project milestones.
  • Interacts with internal personnel & external customers on routine matters.

Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which UK residency is required
