Job Description

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic self-starter with a keen interest in the Commodities business who can help us drive strategic initiatives and help in the overall running of the organisation.

The EMEA Business Unit Managers team is at the center of running the Commodities business and responsibilities include facilitating strategic initiatives while ensuring a robust control environment is maintained. This role not only requires a strong commercial sense but also the ability to communicate clearly across many levels of seniority and identify and drive the operational risk framework for the Commodities business by facilitating work with support functions such as Legal, Risk, Finance, Operations, Technology and Compliance to name a few.

This role is part of the Business Unit Management team covering EMEA Commodities and has ownership of a subset of desks.

The role is closely tied to the front line business and involves a variety of day-to-day queries, investigations and ongoing projects across the full range of areas that impact the business. It is suitable for a driven, enthusiastic person with a collaborative and innovative mindset.

Examples of things you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying risk & control gaps and driving the closure of the same
  • Helping the business to get organised around delivering it’s strategic goals and new business initiatives
  • Staying abreast of external market developments and assessing impacts to our business.
  • Overseeing costs and saving initiatives
  • Overseeing production sales & trading issues, stepping in when they are not being resolved and there is a risk to the business operations
  • Supporting the business to manage their headcount and team management, overseeing audits and stepping in where needed to ensure they move along

This is very much a ‘spider in the web’ role which interacts with almost all functional areas that deal with the sales & trading desks, including other sales & trading desks within the firm.

The candidate should be able to appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

The role of a business manager is varied and unpredictable and therefore requires an ability to problem solve and leverage knowledge of operational processes to diagnose and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment. It is crucial that you are able to 1) understand the core problem that needs to be solved, 2) understand why that problem is relevant and important, and 3) assess where this issue might be affecting others across the team and organisation.

This role requires an ability to have many balls in the air , meet daily requirements as well as progressing longer-term deliveries within stated timelines. It is therefore crucial to possess strong time-management skills and self-direction and self-motivation.

Business managers are often the hub of communication â€“ tying various parts of the organization together to solve problems. The candidate should demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Communication is particularly important in this role given it’s many touchpoints and proximity to the day-to-day running of the sales & trading desks.

As a part of the wider Business Unit Manager team, this role will be party to cross-business projects and initiatives and have opportunities to work with other members of the team and other parts of the firm.

This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed. Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of banking or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry and technology, Commodities experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in managing complex projects and processes
  • Proven ability to work in high-pressure environments
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective work relationship

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving and issue diagnostics
  • Ability to conduct research/analysis and organize findings
  • Ability to independently juggle multiple priorities and ongoing task

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/University degree or equivalent experience
