This position provides leadership and direction to deploy BDUK’s Lean Strategy in the development and sustainment of an enduring Continuous Improvement culture and approach that strives to achieve World Class Productivity and Quality Performance.  The focus area for this role and deployment of the Lean Strategy is within the Vertical Lift Business area – Apache Programmes. Additionally this role has the potential to evolve into the wider BDUK business following successful deployment of the lean strategy within the Apache programme.  Continuous Improvement is an instrumental and integral part of BDUK’s Operational Excellence Strategy providing a foundation to BDUK’s continued success and growth in the UK. This role will be a high profile position and will be instrumental in strengthening BDUK’s long-term commitment to Operational Excellence.

Responsibilities include:

Leadership and direction setting to ensure BDUK’s Apache Lean Strategy is successfully deployed

Programme Management and governance of the Apache Lean Strategy which includes developing the roll-out plan, integration of the organisational development plan, defining key milestones, cost and budget control, risk and opportunity management, resource planning and reporting on progress

Working in partnership with the Organisational Development Specialist ensuring all activities are fully aligned with the overall lean strategy deployment plan and liaising with other business partners and key stakeholders on an ongoing basis

Planning, leading and portfolio management of specific value streams events and projects, leading complex problem solving and delivery of high value / high impact projects / initiatives

Continuous developed of the Apache Lean Strategy through bench marking of best practices whilst maintaining alignment and utilising existing Company World Class Productivity and Quality System’s and methods

Facilitating large scale step change improvement initiatives with cross-functional teams to deliver processes and procedures that result in first time quality and high productivity

Capturing and reporting on the benefits of the Lean Strategy using key performance indicators in the categories of: People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Innovation and/or Boeing Production System (BPS), Quality Leadership Review (QLR) metrics as appropriate.

Competencies

Highly skilled in the management and leadership of cross functional teams and an expert practitioner of collaborative working techniques and methods

Advanced stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build strong professional relationships at both senior management level and shop floor level

A good understanding of Quality Management Systems and supporting regulatory bodies

Experienced coach and trainer with proven ability to transfer knowledge in the development of others

Portfolio Programme Management, project management with resource planning, forecasting and budget control

Highly competent in using MS Project & the MS Office products in general.

Expert facilitator in leading and organising improvement activities from 1 Day Kaizen events to 5 Day detailed organisational step change / value stream mapping events

Experienced in detailed end-to-end value stream mapping

Proven expert in a variety of Lean/Process improvement systems and associated methods

Education & Experience:

10 Years + of proven experience in leading the development and deployment of Continuous Improvement Systems in a range of organisations that include Aerospace and Security, Manufacturing and Service Businesses. Highly skilled with significant experience as a senior practitioner in facilitation, complex value streams, complex problem solving, developing best practices with significant experience in project / portfolio management. Proven track record of continued measurable success with advanced collaboration skills and techniques demonstrated within complex stakeholder structures that include customers, suppliers, internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

An appropriate education within Manufacturing, Maintenance Operations, Engineering and Quality Systems. Certifications in Lean / Process Improvement Systems and Methodologies will be required. A Bachelor’s and or a Master’s degree in a related discipline would be viewed as advantageous to compliment significant practitioner experience at a Senior Level

This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security Clearance for which the UK Government requires UK residency. The successful candidate will hold, or have the ability to obtain, Security Clearance (SC).
