About this role

The Business Development Manager will manage circa 3 Tier 2 Openreach customers with average revenues of c£20-£30m p.a

You would be responsible for: 

  • Incremental business demand for your customers, selling Ethernet, FTTP, SOGEA and optical services. 
  • Identifying and recommending products and services to build long-term success for the customer and for Openreach.  
  • Managing a revenue target and working with our finance unit to ensure your customers’ accounts are in order, that could be supporting on time payments, and billing disputes.

Your role is also about building trusted relationships with your customers at all levels including board level, which as well as a challenge will provide some great job satisfaction.  From that you will have an opinion on your customers strategic goals, and you will be counted on to share your insight within our organisation and align these with our own business objectives.


You\'ll have the following responsibilities

  • Develop partnerships with customers by meeting them, maintaining a high level of contact, and responding to all enquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Deliver our best solutions by engaging with internal stakeholders and owning our propositions to resolution.
  • Provide insight to the wider commercial team on future order volumes, deployment methods, competitor threat, customer profiles, investments, and acquisitions.
  • Accountability for partner issues.
  • Develop new business and propose new solutions.
  • Lead a Virtual Team, to ensure customer gets the best possible service from Openreach. 
  • Adhere to our set governance around recording interactions relating to partners as defined by the Openreach Board Audit, Risk and Compliance committee (OBARC).

You\'ll have the following skills & experience

  • Ability to act as client champion in Openreach across selected clients and influence stakeholders to reach positive outcomes, adding value to the relationship from day one.
  • Customer Relationship Management to deliver positive outcomes for the customer with a proactive, collaborative and responsive approach.
  • Able to manage all aspects of the business relationship with selected accounts to ensure delivery of key objectives and optimal effectiveness.
  • Able to work with client stakeholders in all functions and all levels up to Director/MD (depending on account size) to fulfil the accounts’ needs and drive revenue.
  • Able to brief Openreach CEO, an all matters relating to selected accounts.
  • A level of gravitas in a boardroom meeting.
  • Experience of applying market insight and client account knowledge to help develop incremental business for Openreach.
  • Experience of providing insight to enable accurate sales forecasting and resource planning across selected accounts.
  • Understanding of Openreach’s network and portfolio.
