As Business Design Practice lead, you will be a hands-on business designer who holds additional responsibility for developing and leading the Business Design Community of Practice (CoP), our informal network of business designers who collaborate regularly to share information, improve skills, and actively work on advancing the general knowledge of the domain.

The core skills that make up the Business Design Practice include business architecture, design and analysis; service architecture.

The role will also lead the Architecture Design Office function, the central hub for architecture Community of Practice. As a key member of the Technology organisation, you will be responsible for architecture governance leadership, practice management, and strategic planning, whilst co-ordination and managing central architecture designs, methods and tools

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop a business architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations.

• Apply a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the enterprise.

• Capture the tactical and strategic enterprise goals that provide traceability through the organisation and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance.

• Define the set of strategic, core and support processes that transcend functional and organisational boundaries; identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business; and describe which people, resources and controls are involved in the processes.

• Community of Practice setup, including set a vision for the CoP, design the frequency and types of interactions, curate the group, establish processes and repositories for knowledge sharing, establish simple governance

• Lead the CoP on an ongoing basis, including facilitation of CoP ceremonies such as regular retrospectives

• Foster engagement and trust within the community, ensure rapid flow of communication and shared awareness

• Communicate the value of the CoP, highlighting success stories and recognising the efforts of community volunteers

• Promote and role model the sharing of assets and best practice

• Identify appropriate formal and informal learning and development interventions to increase community of practice capability, managing training and knowledge management budgets and assuring individual learning and career development plans are in place

• Manage resource supply including identifying and supporting recruitment where there is a shortage of relevant skills

• Co-ordinate and manage the development of architecture reference models, blueprints, evolutionary designs and assurance frameworks; own and manage on an ongoing basis, ensuring regular iterations in line with best practice

• Co-ordinate and manage the development of architecture methods and tooling; own and manage on an ongoing basis, ensuring regular iterations in line with best practice

• Drive strategic planning in line with overarching technology strategy; co-ordinate regular review and iteration of architecture roadmaps and horizon planning

• Provide central architectural governance, including development of key governance forums in line with wider technology governance approaches

• Promote and co-ordinate innovation, including organising and leading innovation forums and events, including engagement with external experts

• Resource and performance management, including ensuring architecture resources are sufficiently utilised and learning and development pathways are transparent and mode

Skills & Experience:

• 10+ years business design experience, with broad experience across a range of roles within Technology.,

• Embedding new ways of working and cultural changes.

• Experience leading teams and/or practices

• Have experience in Agile and Lean Practices

• Experience in coaching groups and individuals to realise potential and adopt new or changed ways of working

• Experience in supporting career development and recruitment of Technology professionals

• Experience of training needs analysis and identifying appropriate training solutions to meet skills gaps

• Experience of managing and collaborating with vendors

• An appropriate degree, equivalent qualification or experience

• Understanding of domain driven design, event driven architecture and other such modern design practices

• Experience developing and owning strategic roadmaps

• Co-ordinating and leading teams; managing projects to tight deadlines

• Proven experience of leading teams in the successful delivery of complex, highly performing and high quality software systems, both from Engineering and Architectural standpoints
