Job Description

Job Introduction

BBC Studios is a global creative powerhouse for the development, production, and distribution of bold, British content. We produce over 2,500 hours of content per year, have offices in 22 markets globally, including seven production bases in the UK and production bases and partnerships in a further nine countries around the world. The business generates revenue of £1.4bn, returning around £200m profit to BBC Public Service each year. In the UK, BBC Studios enables audiences to enjoy their favourite BBC programmes and brands outside the licence fee-funded window on alternative platforms, through a range of partnerships, and in multiple formats, from products and magazines to events and experiences.

As a result of career progression within the rights team, we have an opportunity for a Business Affairs Executive to join us permanently. The focus of the role will be to provide first-class rights expertise and support the rights and talent strategies for the BBC Group. You will be proactively managing the content catalogue and supporting the widest possible exploitation of the BBC / Studios programme portfolio. The successful candidate will have exposure to our programmes portfolio both within the UK, Public Service Channels, online and commercial platforms globally.

The Rights Team are specialists on all contributor rights including actors, writers, and music across all business areas. We are experts in talent union and collecting societies agreements and clear contributors for use in emerging businesses as well as advising on music clearances for BBCS produced programmes.

Role Responsibility

As the Business Affairs Executive, you will be responsible for;

  • Heading up the clearance of writers for Changed Format Rights
  • Provide music advice and clearances for BBCS productions, commercial exploitation, and promos
  • Research for negotiations and support in clearing talent union and collecting society agreements
  • Advice on contributor rights for new businesses opportunities
  • Clearance of contributor rights for ‘non-traditional’ exploitation such as voiceovers, gaming, clip sales, live events, and merchandise
